They almost certainly didn’t have the full 26million in cash sitting around ready to go. They didn’t need that much to fire him. They need the money pledged, but it’s paid out over years, not a lump sum unless there’s some additional negotiating. The notion being repeated that there’s just immediately 26 million available for NIL is a fallacy. People reporting this are the same folks that try to tell you they have exact numbers for every teams NIL payouts.
We would have bowed 13 million and I believe that is what was raised.. the other 13 would have been paid out over time. And I want Thomas.. but if his NIL is just stupid money then I’d rather spread it out over several other recruits. I did hear today that Javion Hinson is leaning to the Gators. Clearly a plus 1 guy. So 1.Thomas 2. Wilson/Ffrench/ other Wr committed to Oregon (think we only get one) 3. DJ Pickett 4. CB- one of the two.. (not going to even try to spell them) 5. Myron. Charles (long shot) 6. Surprise recruit? Heard there may be an OLB looking at us.. Even if we only get 3 of the ones above.. that’s a haul and I truly think we come closer to 5 of the above.
Would love for this to happen. What I can’t get my head around are the WRs. Billy G is a damn good WR coach. Plus, you got to be out of your freaking mind not to be playing with DJ! Must be the bags!
I get that but we were all excited to get Montgomery and brown. Would we like Ffrench and Wilson.. sure .. but we have exciting WR in this class and some young guys in the team. I do think we get at least one of the two.. maybe both.
I couldn’t agree more. The offensive line especially. A great line allows your offense to run without relying on a once in a generation talent like lagway. My son started playing football this year in high school, and he’s on the OL. I never really paid much attention to the OL play and blocking schemes and stuff before, but now I had a vested interest in understanding his assignments and responsibilities. And while I love him dearly, focusing on his successes and misses highlighted how critical his blocks were. When he got blown by, his man was on the qb/rb and the offense sputtered. Also an interesting point, highest paid NiL, QB1, 2nd and 3rd -> DE and OG. Once I saw that I started feeding him extra pancakes at breakfast. Lol
Has to happen, this class is entirely dependent on last minute flips from absolute studs. Not ideal but if he pulls it off
True But at some point this Nil better get real. The pros had to put in guidelines before it destroyed the league. We are already there.
NIL money will never really be able to be regulated, and isn't regulated in the pro's either. NFL never really had to deal with any kind of team affiliated NIL entities, but that is a deeply ingrained part of college ball, even more so now. Salaries and a salary cap won't get rid of NIL.
