If he’s not washed as an OC, thats a good pick up for FSU. Issue is, FSU doesn’t have a duel threat QB on their roster
Gus never won anything with him. You’re talking about Chiz. Gus won some games at the Barn. He made a Bama’s life miserable more than any other coach. If true this is a pretty good pick up.
I can’t imagine he just walked away and left this on the table. “As for Malzahn's buyout, UCF would owe him $13.75 million for termination without cause as of Dec. 1, 2024, per the database. The school is required to pay 75% of his remaining guaranteed compensation, and Malzahn has a duty mitigate buyout amount, in which the buyout is offset, dollar for dollar, based on new employment.”
OK – I know Georgia Tech ultimately lost, but I really liked the offensive play calling last night against Georgia and I’m wondering if the offensive coordinator for Georgia Tech would be a good pick up for us?
I wouldn’t have thought that either. But it said “resigned” and Gus did immediately take another job. They probably cut some deal to pay him less, if they would let him “resign” . I dunno.
Yes. It sure wasn't Chizik calling those plays. And Chizic was canned a year after the Gus Bus left town, I believe. And Gus almost won an NC in 2013 with Marshall at QB. Hasn't done much since, though.
Yep, after pondering for a few more minutes, that’s probably what happened here. There was plenty of talk about UCF firing him after this season. They likely got together and worked out some sort of compromise lump sum payout and he gets to ‘resign’. At this point Gus might be tired of being a HC and just wants to call ball plays. Good for him. I bet he didn’t come cheap for the desperate clowns either, $2+mil per.
Say what you will, but I find it more honorable to resign and forgo/reduce the buyout versus forcing them to fire you and pay the buyout. You were getting paid 4-5+ million dollars a year to do a job, and you weren’t successful. We need to get away from guaranteed money in coaching contracts so that they only get paid for the years they actually coach. Pay the coaches like NFL players are paid. Give them a five year contract at 5+ million a year with a guaranteed signing bonus, but if they are fired during/after year 3, the money over the remaining 2 years are forfeited.
