Believe it or not, UF fans ACTUALLY did this, back in 1982 (courtesy of the G'ville Sun): No. 89 - FLORIDA 13, FLORIDA STATE 10 Dec. 4, 1982 Robbie Andreu/Pat Dooley Where: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee. What happened: Florida got a late field goal from Jim Gainey to beat 15th-ranked Florida State on the road for the first time since 1976. The Gators drove to the FSU 1-yard line, but were stymied on two straight plays before Charley Pell chose to take a penalty and kick the winning field goal. Who was the hero: In a season where Wayne Peace started and Bob Hewko played at quarterback, Hewko came off the bench in the second quarter and ran for a touchdown. Although he threw little in the game, it was an emotional win for Hewko, who threw the ball in the stands after the game ended. Why it mattered: Florida hadn't won in Tallahassee in six years, but more than that the Gators weren't supposed to be physical enough to win this one. Gator fans were so pumped, they stormed the field after Hewko's toss and took down one of the goalposts before being subdued with tear gas. Since then, I've never really understood fans rushing their own field and tearing down their OWN goalposts - kind of silly if you ask me. The real mark of being badass fans is rushing your opponents field and tearing down THEIR goalposts in an upset.
Every fan, player and staff should rip up a square foot of sod and take it directly to Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville.....just in case we go to the Gator Bowl
You must not have ever gone to tally. Say what you want about the football and school rivalry, but memorable times came out of EVERY trip to Tallahassee.
Yep, couple of my Chattahoochee buddies got a ride to the Leon County Jail for this. Good times for sure!
I thank you, Wanne - since all the money in Social Security has long since been raided for other entitlement programs, any money you put in now goes directly to my monthly SS payment in this Ponzi scheme
I just posted about this before I saw your reply. Great times. Recalling my first visit to fsu's "erector set", the 1982 UF vs fsu game
