By: Nick Marcinko -- November 23, 2024 It’s been a frustrating year for senior running back Montrell Johnson, who suffered injuries throughout the season that kept him sidelined for three games and limited in others. After missing over a month of action, Johnson returned last week vs LSU but logged just two carries for 14 yards. One week later, on senior day, Montrell Johnson’s workload significantly increased, exploding for a season high 107 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, averaging 5.9 yards in Florida’s upset victory over No.9 Ole Miss. “I shot to the moon”: RB Montrell Johnson explodes for season high rushing yards vs Ole Miss | GatorCountry.com
Largely due to injury, Johnson had gone from being a 1,000 yard feature back. to more or less behind two Freshmen. Sometimes I get frustrated with Napier's back rotation, but yesterday he went with the hot hand when it counted.
Im not sure he ever was behind anyone, just injured and lickily our depth didnt have much if any falloff.
Johnson and Baugh are the better blockers, so they got the lion's share of snaps. We lose that game with Etienne getting all the snaps, as he wanted last year.
Persistence and dogged determination to be the best has Montrell at the top of his game. He followed his coach to Gainesville, and now the Gators, and we the fans, are the beneficiaries of his good/hard work on the football field. Good luck to him in the NFL draft next year. I hope he gets to play for the best team possible.
Jacobi has been playing well, true? He was sidelined last season with a knee? Glad he had some carries this season.
I see us running for over 200-250 on the holes as a team.Their allowing 192 yds per game, 114th out of 134. I can see CBN running it down their throat. Hopefully MJ gets the bulk of the yards in his last regular season game as a Gator.
