I'm liking what I'm seeing out of this group and they have in no way quit on the team and coaches. But Ole miss had a couple of dropped passes that would have changed things. On the good side, their 3rd down conversions were kept in check which is better than LSu. The bend but don't break is frustrating to watch but when it works out that's great. Just takes some years off your life though.
Dike missed a pass that skipped thru his hands and was intercepted by Ole Miss. So, they also benefited from similar things.
Dart and Nussmeyer missed quite a few they normally might hit because we had them rattled. A lot just a little off. I had feared they might pick us apart but we nailed them both. I have faith we'll play more aggressive when healthy.
And when I first saw that, I thought he was getting ejected for targeting until they did the instant replay and I was like thank God. Head to the side hit him in the elbow no problem.
They also ruled it a completed pass.......which along with the targeting call were overturned after review. Fans watching and hearing that call by the refs.......
The tackling by the D has been fantastic. They hit hard and wrap up like a Bama D. Occasional missed assignments but they are young. It’s been a long time since we’ve had that. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
This... I went ape-sh*t. The targeting call was spit-second, the hit was huge (and legal) but wasn't surprised. But the ref announced "the result of the play is a FIRST DOWN. We also have a targeting on the defense" First Down?? How exactly? Incomplete, maybe. Catch and fumble, maybe. But the ref literally wanted to call it a first down - before adding the penalty. The ball was 5 yards away from the receiver when he hit the ground. There were two options to call, either incomplete or catch and fumble. It was such a bizarre call.
That flag came in so late . . . I was wondering if they're told to call targeting on "anything close" and let the SEC Office, err, um, the replay booth, decide. LOL! On a more serious note, if an official has to stand there and think about something, that's not good. In any sport.
Bend but don’t break will continue until we get more dominant defensive linemen. Banks is pretty good but we’re still not at the level we used to be where we stacked defensive linemen. I like Sapp as well but we just need more. Hopefully, recruiting will pick up in that area.
Banks left it all out there on Florida Field. I hope he sticks around and doesn’t leave early. Sapp too. Guys would be very difficult to replace
No mention yet of Reggie F'n Nelson's hit vs. LSU in the Swamp in '06. Talk about setting the tone. Who did he kill? Brandon LaFell?
No doubt. We need the ole two deep with guys below them waiting to earn their chance otherwise we are going to always be learning and growing in-season hoping our weak spots get there and don't hurt us along the way. Loving the DL and LB play lately. Feels good.
