Bluesky and Threads are growing very fast as users move away from Twitter as a result of the perception of Elon’s meddling. I think Bluesky is a superior option as it feels as user friendly as Twitter with additional controls to eliminate trolls and bots which have overrun Twitter. Threads is a lot like instagram with more text.

As you can see below they are the number 1 and number 2 most downloaded free app from the App Store. I personally only use twitter if I want to post a link here since it embeds well. But soon so will those sites.

Social media sites without liberal celebrities and journalists have failed miserably - such as Truthsocial. It will be interesting to watch if this is a speed bump for twitter or a cliff.

Bluesky and Threads find opportunity as users and advertisers flee X

Bluesky has more than 21 million users. Where does it go from here?

I don’t tweet and don’t have any desire to spend more time on social media, but I’m glad to see alternatives flourishing at twitter’s expense

I've never tweeted much, but Twitter was good for following intelligent people who post good news articles; very effective as a news aggregator.

Elon Musk is such a vile, un-American POS though, that I rarely log on any more. And when I do, it has seemed for a long while like the algorithm has changed to stir up animosity. Lot's of posts from people I don't want to see, trolling type posts.

I keep intending to delete my account, but just haven't got around to it. I will though.

I agree—X is a great source for the latest, highly specific information. However, it’s off-putting when the first thing you see are Musk’s goofy posts. Plus there’s more hate speech which gets old.

“What we’ve seen,” says Ed Saperia, dean of the London College of Political Technology, “Extreme content drives engagement.” Creating toxic content became a viable livelihood….people saying patently wrong things for hate-clicks”

Racism, misogyny, lies: how did X become so full of hatred? And is it ethical to keep using it? | X | The Guardian

X will be fine. Journalists and sports writers want the biggest audience, which is by far on X.

Elon is annoying, but if I want good sports info, X it is.

I would think anyone could data mine twitter for their model. I bet he has no idea how to leverage Twitter. It was a vanity purchase, like a middle-aged man buying a sports car - makes him feel cool but relatively useless. But if you have the money, play away.

For now. Twitter doesnt do anything special. Its entirely replaceable - its value is the users not the platform and unlike facebook its not the hub of your family and friends with lots of photos. Its just a news sifter.

I never subscribed to twitter. I am considering downloading Bluesky. I might wait till after the first of the year and see how its numbers look. On apps I am a follower not a trend setter. lol

As long as people scroll, and there’s an advertising market, it will be fine. If the traffic leaves, the advertising dollars will drop proportionately. Capitalism.

How hilarious is it that a rando poster is trying to say Musk has "no idea how to leverage X/Twitter". Just too funny. Yeah, the richest guy in the world doesn't know how to make money...

Thanks for the Monday morning laughs.
