I'm only responding to the Napier fans chest-thumping and talking to everyone else like they were stupid to have their concerns. There are still legit concerns. I'd be remiss in not pointing them out on a message board designed to discuss the team. They can take a victory lap for the coach all they want (which is sort of weird since the players are the ones making the plays, but whatevs) and I'll still point out areas of concern along the way. The truth is, it's very unlikely Napier is now a Top 10 coach. Too many clues indicate otherwise. But we do have someone who'll probably be the #1 QB in college football next season and like a good jump-shot, a top notch QB can mask a lot of deficiencies. Just ask Mike Norvell. But it's not me not letting them have their water. They've been having their water and other drinks. I will say though the Kiffin talk is tabled, but am I convinced he wouldn't produce better results with all the resources UF has? No. We'll see what happens.
For you to overlook the improvement in the defense while you were touting the offensive and coaching prowess of the last last 2 opponents is laughable. Yes DJ has progressed and is on a nice trajectory. Overall BN has acquired the talent and staff and deserves recognition for the results on the season to date when almost everyone in the country was pouring gas on the flames stoked on this and other forums
I was all on board with changing coaches. I am glad the team has turned it around! I hope coach has had an ah ha moment somewhere and keeps it rolling. Glad to feel good after games again. Lupo’s marinade on my crow please.
Now I understand- you replied to my post but your reply was not directed toward me. But I should still “eat crow” even though I was “tough but fair” on Billy. Skinklandia. As for this strawman about “we gained less yardage”, sure the team that gains more yards usually wins. Same for turnovers, scoring tds in the red zone, and time of possession correlates to winning. Picking one stat after two big wins is miserly and irrelevant unless it proves out in losses.[/QUOTE]
Bro, we are ranked 103rd in the nation in total defense as of today. Dead last in the SEC. STOP! Ole Miss should have won yesterday. They didn't and that's great for us, but teams are not going to bail us out like that every game. Overlook the improvement on defense? We're in year #3 and 103rd in the nation, dead last in the SEC in total defense. Overlook the improvement??? These things have a way of working themselves out in the wash. You can't game the system forever. If you look at the 20 teams ranked right above us in total defense, not a single damn one of them are doing anything this year. It matters. I haven't overlooked anything. It's like you want me to lie to you and tell you being ranked 103rd in total defense is a nothing burger. LOL, I wish, but that's not reality.
No you aren't, because nobody is doing that. Everyone had concerns early in the season. Nobody thinks he's Saban now. When we do poorly coach bad when we do well players somehow good coach still bad. Laughable. I think you've been drinking some sketchy lake water. Lane didn't produce better results on the field against Billy. That should derail the Lane train forever. Pick someone else (not Deion) to shill for.
Sure, let's cherry-pick some stats. RZ defense............12th Sacks....................23rd INTs......................36th The main stats, though are 17 and and 16. The defense is playing quite well despite injuries in the backfield.
One is shrugging off future NFL linebackers and completing improbable passes (our freshman QB) and the other is still calling timeouts at inopportune moments and his play calling is very non-inventive. At QB, we can see as big a night and day difference as we have seen in quite some time. We're not really seeing much different in terms of clock management, play-calling and common sense from the coaching side. I'm glad you love Billy Napier. History tells us he is probably not going to become a good to great coach. He is what he is. Props to him from landing Lagway though. I remember when Bobby Petrino landed Lamar Jackson. Jackson changed everything on a dime. I'm not sure yet Lagway is going to be the next Lamar, but I will point out Bobby Petrino was smart enough to start Lamar from day one as a true freshman and we don't think of Bobby Petrino as being that good of a coach.
Yes, you are cherry picking stats. Total defense does not lie. It's an aggregate of all plays and not a cherry pick. You cannot get around that stat. The analytics and data will show you that teams (unless they have an insane offense) do not win games consistently being ranked what we are in total defense. And just for giggles, our offense is 13th of 16 in the SEC. Not exactly setting the world on fire, but we're getting there.
I felt like then and I still think we probably win at Tenn if Mertz and Johnson don't get hurt. The Gators were rolling on offense at that point in the game.
Incidentally, look at the top 7 teams in the country in total defense right now. They're all CFP bound as of today.
For all the knocks on Lane, he still has Ole Miss with the #18 defense and #2 offense in the country. Over the course of time, a team like that is going to win a lot of games. All of Ole Miss's losses this year were very close. It happens like that sometimes, but over the course of time, a team that plays that well on both offense and defense is going to win a lot of games. Lane is not a bad coach by any stretch.
Simple mind? And you have the unmitigated gall to claim that I’m incapable of being respectful? Perhaps you might want to consider proof-reading before you post, to flag and mitigate the level of arrogance you project, intentional or unintentional. Your posts might be more credible and less laughable. Strawman? Gained less yardage? No idea what you’re talking about. You’re bloviating at the wrong person
Wrong. Total defense is indeed a meaningless stat on its own. The Gator defense has vastly improved during this season.
Yep. Meaningless stat. That's why the top 7 teams in the nation in total defense are in the CFP as of today. Run along now...
