Well, we had a non-running and a running QB injured and neither through contact. So where does that put this entire discussion?
I see your point, but that one to Mertz is what they call a freak accident. Sometimes people get hurt. Anyone can get hurt at any given time, I understand that. I understand a QB can get hurt on a scramble just as much as if it was in the pocket or a designed run. What I argue is the need to draw up a play where you are increasing the likelihood of the most valuable player on the offense taking a hit that he doesn’t need to take. If he gets injured scrambling it’s “damn the bad luck”. If he gets injured taking the snap and running directly into 8 people trying to hit him, it’s a dumb play.
Both were freak accidents. Elite young athletes suffered leg soft tissue injuries without being touched. Also, I am curious who stated there should be designed runs for the QB? I’ve looked back and while people mention the offense will be more effective if he can run, I haven’t seen anyone say he should on a designed play until you said he shouldn’t. I am fairly certain all were referencing the ability to evade a sack which applies pressure to the defense to be accountable for a scramble.
I quoted your original post of you saying to the likes of you hope he can run. I said I can do without the called runs and hope he only needs to run to scramble.
Yeah, I just meant being mobile and not forced to be confined to the pocket. Some of the forced quick throws to avoid being hit nearly cost us interceptions. I’d rather he run a little than risk turnovers against this squad.
I’m all for that. Just so we are clear lol i was essentially agreeing with your quote and adding on what i hoped not to see in my original
For what it is worth, contact is rarely the cause of a hamstring injury. They said he had a grade two, which if on the milder side, he could be close to 100% by tomorrow. He was 85% last week after only missing one game.
I guess their losses were flukes then. Theyre goid but beatable . We wont win throwing interceptions and letting their qb run for first downs.
We should run Lagway if the docs say he is healed up enough. Simple enough. What are we saving him for cause this game is pivotal for our program. He is just as likely to get hurt getting sacked.
Thing about those percentages are they aren't scientific numbers and only opinions based. Rum full speed and he will find out.
huge massive win for this program and university. Say what you want about Billy but these kids play their heart out for him.
As one who thought BN's record thru mid season and prior 2 years led me to think he should be fired, I want to say that I love what he has done with his team since! First season we have improved thru the season. Great tackling, incredible freshmen playing great, preparing backups to ball, and fans in the stadium never quit on the team. If bn can develop this staff (still think we need an OC to help him), consistently play high level ball (no UM/Texas type no shows), we recruit, beat FSU, and hit the portal, bringing back BN seems a good decision. Great win for the Gators!
And just like that, Billy gets another year, for better or worse. I do like the way this team is trending tho.
