I can barely recall …. but do remember how my parents and adult neighbors were impacted.

I remember. I remember waving at him when i was in kindergarten and he rode by my school during his campaign. We were all out on the front lawn waving. The lunch ladies were crying. He was dead just a few years later when i was in 2nd grade.

Somewhere in my family there is the letter he wrote when my mom’s cousin was killed on his boat.

I was only 5 but can remember my mom watching the funeral on the tv of course in black and white for us as we didnt have a color tv yet. I am sure I didn't understand what was going on but did know it was a big deal and something bad.

I was in the 6th grade and our entire class was at the Orlando Planetarium- on the way home our busses went down Church St in Orlando near what is now called The Citrus Bowl and stopped at a place that sold blinds as the bus driver was also an Interior Designer- since I was in the first seat they sent me in to tell them she was here so the y could bring the blinds out- as I was standing there one of the owners told me that president Kennedy had died from his bullet wounds- she realized I did not know- she said they would be right out- I walked back out to the bus and as I stepped onto the bus I looked at one of my teachers and said a lady in the business told me President Kennedy had been killed- he grabbed me and said be quiet and took me off the bus. We had 5 school busses and one of the chaperones went to each bus and had all our teachers come up to where I was standing with my teacher- they all came up and 2 of them immediately said, what did you do now Bill- then the male teacher said I was not in trouble and had me tell all the teachers what I was told- they quickly decided to unload all 125 students and took us to a small park next to Lake Lorna Doon and told all of us that President Kennedy had been assassinated. He led us in The Lords Prayer and a lot of kids were crying. Once we got everyone calmed down they loaded up the busses and headed home. It was a quiet ride from Orlando back to Clermont.

I was sitting in the last row of Mrs. Watson's 4th grade class at a Dallas suburb elementary school. Earlier they had wheeled a TV into our classroom so we could watch JFK landing at Dallas Love Field. After we watched for a while Mrs Watson turned off the TV and we got back to work.

A short time later a teacher came in and whispered something to Mrs Watson. I can still see the stunned look on her face. She turned on the TV and we watched the horrible news that the president had been shot.

We had been so proud that the president had come to our city. I remember looking down at the floor and praying for him. I think it was the first time in my life that I prayed.

They let us out of school early and announced no classes on the following Monday. Walking home a kid from my class said schools would be closed Monday because the killer was on the loose and it wasn't safe for us to walk to school.

I got home to find my mother sobbing as she watched the TV coverage.

Some month's later Oswald's widow, Marina, moved into the house catty-cornered from my school.

Be careful with this thread or you'll wake up Coco and his conspiracy theories.

It's easy to forget that not everyone mourned. I've mentioned before that my brother-in-law was teaching at Ol Miss and saw students celebrating on campus.
And this flyer was distributed in Dallas before JFK's visit.

Yep. I remember the flyers from the John Birch Society railing against Kennedy because he was a papist and would owe allegiance to the pope not the constitution. The Pope would rule the country and other such nonsense. Not universally admired.
