Now that the season is getting cooking, I thought it might be nice to have a go-to thread to discuss other/marquee games of interest. My second favorite team is the Fighting Illini, so tonight I'm going to check out #21 Illinois at #8 Alabama, 9pm on SECn. Go Illini!
Even though the defenses were lacking, it still was a high level game with two very talented teams going at it. I'd really like to see how each of these teams does against a high level defensive team. Either way you still have to out score the other team to win.
My other team is St. John’s. They have a huge game later today against Baylor in the Bahamas, to be followed tomorrow by playing either Virginia or Tennessee. Interestingly, they ended up scheduling a third game in the Bahamas against Georgia on Sunday.
That one appears to be tonight's marquee matchup. As you alluded to, TN will play VA in the second matchup. TN favored by 12.5
Wow . . . SJ missed a FT up 2 at the end of O/T. They actually had a chance at the rebound, but the SJ player couldn't control it w one hand and it went to Baylor with 4 seconds left. The Bayor rebounder advanced the ball to a well-guarded player who canned a three at the buzzer. Baylor by one.
Two teams playing great defense. I looked at Virginia’s roster, they have a deep team with tall guards and a lot of bigs, one is a seven footer and two or three 6’11” players. They will be tough in that they will force our guards into forcing three pointers and will keep our inside players bottled up. If FAMU is any idea how our inside players have a hard time scoring, this will be a grinder game at home. Hoping we can handled them at home.
UVA got crushed on the boards by Tennessee. They gave up 18 offensive rebounds which resulted in 19 seconds chance points.
This is a good idea. Thanks! How will folks know when an "other game" is being discussed here though? It's only a page now so no problem . . . but when it gets to 5 pages or 10 pages by January, then more? You guys decide.
St. John’s led Baylor 98-93 with 15 seconds left in double overtime before Edgecombe made a heavily contested, off-balance 3 for Baylor. Baylor then fouled Zuby Ejifor with 4 seconds to go. Ejifor missed both free throws, and the timer was slow in starting the game clock. Baylor got the rebound and Jeremy Roach was then able to get off and make a contested 3 at the buzzer. An unbelievably painful loss for St. John’s in the game of the year so far.
Neutral site is better for RPI and NET. Same reason we played in Jax against USF, you still get a home crowd but you get the neutral court bump. They will probably be playing Illinois in Chicago next year.
