stripping powers from the governor and AG of powers before the dem elected reps take office. how can it be legal for the legislative branch to take power from the executive branch unless they put conditions on it when they ceded it. bundled it with hurricane relief so if governor vetoes it, he is bad guy, and then they override his veto with their supermajority before they lose it..

North Carolina GOP lawmakers vote to strip powers of incoming Democratic leaders

North Carolina Republican lawmakers voted to strip the state’s incoming Democratic governor and attorney general of key powers, passing a sweeping bill before the GOP likely loses their veto-proof supermajority in the Legislature next year. The legislation would grant the authority to appoint members to the state's election board, which oversees the voting process in North Carolina, to the state auditor, an office that will be held by Republican Dave Boliek after he defeated incumbent Democrat Jessica Holmes in the Nov. 5 election.

That power currently lies with the governor's office, which will remain in Democratic hands after Attorney General Josh Stein defeated Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson. Republicans have long sought control of the state Board of Elections, which is historically controlled by the same party as the current governor, but their past efforts have been foiled by the courts.
    ...........................
The changes are just part of a massive, 131-page bill that includes hurricane relief funding and advances a spate of other Republican legislative priorities. The law was written behind closed doors and introduced as a committee substitute Tuesday morning, replacing a long-discarded bill about dental practices.

The legislation was passed by both GOP-controlled chambers over the course of just two days, though three Republicans opposed the measure in the House on Tuesday. After the Senate passed the bill on Wednesday, it now heads to Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's desk.

It's why I've been saying Biden should just go nuclear on his way out. Theres no rules anymore. Nobody gives a shit. Supreme Court gave him immunity. He should use it. Why not? Taking the high road has gotten the Dem party nowhere.

I thought this thread was about Richard Petty opening a string of bars. That would be news seeing as how he never accepted alcohol sponsorships because he promised his mother he would never do it.

Meh, Cooper basically lied about the Charlotte gym locker room situation to get elected and caved to outside financial interests in doing it.

The dems in this state aren't exactly historical high road takers.

From Mike Easley, to Jim Black and toss in a racist like Jim Hunt. (Who Democrats elected 4 times as governor.)

I don't like this type of governing by the Republicans In this case, but its sorta been that way in this state since I moved here In the 1990's and historically as well. The parties in this state play dirty.

    It's sad, but entertaining.

This is my least favorite kind of governance. To me, this move isn’t petty. It’s anti-Republican (in the founders’ sense of the term).

    It's not a false story.

It's just odd to act like this Isn't the norm in NC especially considering how dirty Democrats have played here over the years.

@swampbabe, on what premise do you disagree? Are you unaware of the racial issues that Jim Hunt had (Wilmington 10 case)?

Are you unaware of how Roy Cooper won the governorship by 10k votes by caving to the NCAA tournament and the NBA All Star game over money?

Are you aware the Bev Perdue was a financial fraudster leaving multiple people on her team indicted for campaign fraud.

How about Mike Easley? A felon who was a financial thief?

Counting Hunt's two 8 year terms, that is your last 5 democratic governorships in NC.

So people can spare me the NC Republicans don't play fare narrative. Its a dirty state politically.

While we are pointing out corruption and ethics, let us not forget scumbag McCrory lead the way in NC in the previous election!!

My issue is your constant worry over bathrooms/locker rooms. It seems that your concern is not with trans folks but with your fellow men.

Besides, if you want to look for ridiculous/corrupt government you can come on down to sunny Florida, although republicans have pretty much trashed the sunshine law in this state.

You are clueless about what happened with that ridiculous Charlotte (locker room, not bathroom) law and how the NBA and NCAA strong armed our coward governor into using it to sway just enough voters to win by a tiny margin. We basically elected David Silver NBA comish) and the NCAA Board of Governors.

Total BS. Youve been a man scorned since Roy stood up against ridiculous over-regulation of where to pee. Time to move on.

North Carolina is the most gerrymandered state in the country or at least one of. This state is a democratic majority on local issues having elected statewide democrats for a decade with a gerrymandered state legislature and federal legislature that is nearing a supermajority. Its such BS. Cant wait for demographics to overwhelm the right wing idiots in the legislature. I just want a fair voice.

City, you may be surprised to know I agree. I have called out NC Republicans for gerrymandering. But pretty much every Dem governor in our lifetimes has played dirty.

Its just the historical nature of North Carolina politics.

Remember, i just left the Republican nominee for governor off my ballot. I give no high ground to the Republicans here.

They didnt give you much of a choice this year that's for sure. I think the GOP here feels invincible with the district lines drawn so favorably and thus put up total crackpots.
