If we are being told about this from China now, it has likely been in use for quite a while. Nothing is safe any more For the first time ever researchers crack RSA and AES data encryption Recent developments in quantum computing have sent shockwaves through the cybersecurity community, revealing the potential of quantum systems to undermine modern encryption. A team of Chinese researchers, led by Wang Chao from Shanghai University, has demonstrated that D-Wave’s quantum annealing computers can crack encryption methods that safeguard sensitive global data. This breakthrough, published in the Chinese Journal of Computers, emphasizes that quantum machines are closer than expected to threatening widely used cryptographic systems, including RSA and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). The research team's experiments focused on leveraging D-Wave's quantum technology to solve cryptographic problems. In their paper, titled “Quantum Annealing Public Key Cryptographic Attack Algorithm Based on D-Wave Advantage,” the researchers explained how quantum annealing could transform cryptographic attacks into combinatorial optimization problems, making them more manageable for quantum systems.
Not to be cavalier, but if the Chinese are allowed to publish it then it is one of two things: 1. Very old news within intelligence community and the Chinese have already stolen everything that they want for right now 2. Does not actually work, but it more complex than the average person realizes to even simulate, so hard to prove or disprove their claims.
A sobering thought from earlier this year... Apple rolls out quantum-resistant cryptography for iMessage Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Let’s be clear. Their claim is they cracked RSA 50-bit. Most RSA keys today use 2048 bits. And the difficulty of cracking more bits isn’t a linear progression. It’s exponential. Also, RSA is mostly used to exchange keys. Actual file encryption mostly uses AES, which is arguably more secure. So you don’t need to worry that the Chinese are about to crack your encrypted tranny porn stash and notify your wife. At least not any time soon.
I feel like we had a thread on a month ago.. Cracking 2^50 possible solutions vs 2^256 or 2^2048…. The difference is so great I don’t even know to begin to describe it. Never say never, but 256 is said to be quantum resistant… it will probably get there faster than we think, though…
