A Cardiothoracic surgeon gets so much disdain.

“In 1982, he received his undergraduate degree in biology magna cum laude[3] at Harvard University.[32] He played safety on Harvard's football team[33] and was a goalkeeper on the men's varsity water polo team.[34] In 1986, he obtained MD and MBA degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine[31] and Penn's Wharton School.[35][36] He was awarded the Captain's Athletic Award for leadership in college[37] and was class president and then student body presidentduring medical school.[38]

Oz became a professor at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2001,[28] a title he held until 2018, when his current title changed to professor emeritus.[4]

He has helped develop numerous devices and procedures related to heart surgery, including the MitraClip and the left ventricular assist device (LVAD), and by 2015 held a number of patents related to heart surgery.[41][47][28]”.

Should we not actually be congratulating Trump for finally nominating someone not credibly accused of either adultery or sexual assault? Or both.

Giving credit where credit is due Dr. Oz has been a very gifted and innovative cardiovascular surgeon. That alone doesn't mean that he has the credentials to manage one of the largest bureaucracies in the federal government. Unless I missed it he has no experience managing a large organization in either the government or the private sector.

He knows more about medicine and the human body than anyone on this board(and 95%) of people on the planet.

I’ll just sit back and watch the experts criticize him.

Cool. Then by your criteria, this one should be appointed to Sec of Commerce or Health and Human Services.

That's like saying a guy on the assembly line is qualified to be CEO of Ford. Is he going to individually treat everyone on Medicare and Medicaid? Cause otherwise his qualifications as a doctor are only a small percent of what this position requires. And that ignores his recent decent in quackery.

I mean, seems like good news if you’re hoping Trump’s clock runs out (one way or another) before he can destroy the western world.

Rubio is about the only one with an ounce of competence. They are all going to bounce off the furniture like knockoff Roombas until they are replaced, and even then it’s likely they get replaced by other connected billionaire buds.

What Trump doesn’t get is that his loyalty test is faulty. Anyone “loyal” to his entire Idea is essentially incapable of loyalty. They are all greedy spoiled brats who prosper by subterfuge at every opportunity.

They’ll likely never get anything right, but also unlikely to actually destroy much in any meaningful way.

I feel bad for people dumb enough to try to survive an easily preventable disease because JFKJ thinks that that zinc is all you need, or that a pedo is bothered by his own buds, but apparently most people want exactly what they’re getting (since these picks are a rare example of Trump not lying at all.)

Perhaps all of the AG’s molester friends will drink bleach after they catch measles from their unvaccinated victims. This could all sort itself out.

That's the bar you wanna set? (Hint: The job is less about knowledge of medicine and the human body). Just a guess, but it might be that this person should have knowledge/experience with medical insurance and overseeing huge budgets. Here are the creds of the current administrator, Chiquita Brooks-LaSure:
    • deputy director for policy at the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
    • led the agency’s implementation of ACA coverage and insurance reform policy provisions
    • assisted House leaders in passing several health care laws, including the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 and the ACA
    • lead Medicaid analyst for the Office of Management and Budget, coordinating Medicaid policy development for the health financing branch
    • managing director at Manatt Health
    • director of coverage policy in the Office of Health Reform
    • A.B. from Princeton University and Master’s degree in Public Policy from Georgetown
    • visiting scholar at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.
Which person is better suited to oversee a 1.3 trillion$ budget? The heart surgeon turned TV quack?

Do you think he doesn’t have some understanding of the issues with Medicare?

He’s hardly an assembly line worker.

I’ll trust a Physician of his standing to work through some of the issues.
Medicare often is loaded with bureaucratic nonsense that has zero to do with patient care.

I was actually thinking Scott would have been a better choice given his experience at running a large health care organization, plus he is knowledgeable about all the nooks and crannies where fraud can happen

Did his TV talk show take Medicare?

The dude absolutely has credentials as a medical doctor (not as an administrator of an insurance program, but as a doctor). However, that is what makes his decision to turn around and build a career around claiming untested supplements were "magic pills" that would help you lose weight or *insert thing that housewives watching his show cared about* so despicable. He knows better. And, in fact, he used the fact that he did know better to help the con.

If that's the job requirement, 'Must have some understanding of the issues with Medicare', most of us on this message board are qualified too.
