Grambling State looked at Rueben under the boards and thought, how many bigs can they go. Sam then came in and went straight inside, the Condo came in and pull down rebound after rebound, then Thomas Haugh came in and he was all over them. Just another night of Gator mens basketball. Rueben got excited after Will gave him a free showtime dunk. I think this revved him up. His flex afterwards probably scared the Grambling team. I was was hyped because I didn’t know if he didn’t understand our teams offense and defense, but I knew there was an unbelievable athlete, that could make a big difference in our team if he could get something to light his fire. Well he and big Sam are learning fast and with Condo and Haugh, We have a great mix/depth of talented good young bigs. Last night the fire was lit. Shout out to Will Richard who got steals, rebounds, pts, and played unselfish team ball. Not to forget Martin who is always in the middle of lose ball fights and most times come out of the pile going fast the other way. To opposing teams, pick your poison. Am I missing anything?
Yes agree the new guys have been great so far, each one of them and good fit for the team given all the core pieces we have from last year’s team
Once we start playing tough D-1 teams in the Sec nightly, we will still have good and bad stretches. Vandy in Nashville, which I go to every time we play them here, since I live here, I was honored with one of the worst games of the year. As a Nashville sports council member, I volunteer for the tournament every year, I didn’t have high hopes for the team. Surprise, the consistency and urgency we needed came through. You’re hit the nail on the head, we will be getting better. I hope the injury bug won’t hit us like last year and the year before, but I think we have enough bodies to weather this better.
Getting Urban cleared was big. Gives us real depth at guard & should really help the 3 point offense. It also should help us avoid long droughts with an additional instant offense option on the bench. The time of being cleared after 3 games should allow for Urban to be fully integrated for the SEC schedule. Ideally this will aid greatly in the consistency of the team this season given how deep the conference is this season…
You are on point, this helps in guard depth. Urban is a tough looking guard who is skilled fighting for his shot. I am happy for this young man and I am sure the team is also. As I always lament, the season is long and there are tough teams that want the same thing we do. Three bigs in three years have gone down. We are deep now at the guard positions and well stocked up front. The coaches have worked overtime to get a full compliment of players who can compete on a high level.
Yep, we're probably better equipped than in past years to deal with injury, foul trouble, illness, and other depth issues that arise. It sure would have been nice to get Urban minutes in at least one game before FSU. I expect him to make some mistakes in his first appearance.
I would think the freshman Isiah Brown would be six, using the freshman in a pinch if anyone gets hurt, sick, etc.
