OGT: LSU at FLORIDA -- November 16, 2024 -- 3:30 PM [ABC]

I hoped that stop would be a harbinger of things to come in the game but my learned (over decades) “wait ‘til next year” gene would not let me get too optimistic. Due to the plethora of third and Granthams I wasn’t highly optimistic until Baugh broke the big one late. That was glorious.

 

What do you do when you agree with half a comment. lol.

Maybe but nobody let us to the 1 yard line.

 

I wonder if they will continue to put bronze plaques on the stadium after last year’s plaque.

 

It reminded me of that 5 sack from Alex Brown alone game. That game made him millions in draft jockeying and I think it was Tenn at home.

 

It reminded me of the goal line stand game. Totally different but still holding off what looked like their momentum and our kids resolve. That game yesterday is why i love college football.

 

I'm talking about defense. All year we have been a hard fighting team inside the 5 of our goal. LSU DL just let our OL push them 3 yards into the end zone. That's an embarrassing lack of effort. Have to wonder if that team has internal problems despite all the talent and pretty solid x and o coaching.

 

I feel old when I hear people talk about games I watched/experienced as if they are from the leather-helmet days. It was Tennessee, it was at home. Like the LSU game, it was a back & forth game that the defense stood tall esp. late.

It was a night game on a weekend we had a Scout dump-camp outing. The Vol fans (everyone but me and my son) had brought a portable TV. It had been a long day and went to bed. I could hear the collective cheers or groans as I was going off to sleep in my tent. Woke up well after midnight to a dead quiet campsite. Got out of my sleeping bag and crept down to the old Suburban and turned on the radio to get a the score. Heard we had won, so I went back to sleep happily.

The next morning, the gang tried to convince me the Vols had won. They were telling all kinds of stories to convince me of the Vol victory. I let them go for awhile and they were enjoying themselves before I finally divulged my middle-0f-the-night radio listening session. That took the wind right out of their sails.

 

I was at that game in 99’. UT came in riding high after their 98’ NC (their last). The biggest difference is AB did it all by himself. He also had 2 pass breakups and 1 int. I would imagine Tee Martin has banned anyone in his house from uttering AB’s name.

 

It’s all relative. I felt old for remembering the game at all. Well we all keep getting older. Better than not right?
