A "three year deal" with no buyout is not effectively a three year deal.

his buyout is based upon the fact he got a 7 year guaranteed contract right?
The issue has always been you "need" your coach to be on a 4 year deal, so recruits "assume" he will be there for 4 years right?

The poster boy for undeserved retention. Another punch in the face for our program. :(

UF's problem is that they are hiring coaches that should've been "cheaped out" on at astronomical figures that should've never been considered for a head coach with no Power-5 experience. If he would've balked and stayed at UL then we would have dodged a bullet.

It would have to be way more than half a mil and the person would have to represent virtually all of the Power 5 schools. The reason Sexton gets away with what he does is that he almost has a monopoly on coaches as an agent.

BN is way overpaid. It was a dumb contract to give to a G5 that no one was beating down the door for.

That's kind of what I was getting at. Napier's deal isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things but a more limited contract with no buy out and higher per year salary would have saved aTm and half ass u.
I know the answer to this but why does it seem like coaches don't want to bet on themselves for success.

Coaching contracts should be more performance-based.
Also, Napier should donate $1M to our NIL fund.

Have to entice coaches with a certain amount of guaranteed money these days but there could be a balance of both with incentives. Maybe the first 3 years start at going exorbitant rates but year 4 starts contingency buyouts based on failed performances of predetermined terms. Guarantee whatever it takes to lure a coach the first few years then buyouts are based on whatever terms...below 500, 500 winning record, conference winner, playoff, natty etc.

If a coach is confident his "process" will work then he won't be subjected to lower buyout terms. If he sucks then the school gets off the hook for a lesser price because he didn't follow through on his contract or the coach gets great bonuses for winning.

Yep. Sexton can run around circles all day with the ADs. Look at Mullen, he got him extra money from Sticklin before getting fired the following season.

What a time to be alive. When that deal was struck it seemed like the best deal since we traded Manhattan for some beads.

The notion that ADs have no control over these inflated buyouts is ridiculous. If they want to change the status quo as it were, then just don't participate. If that eliminates candidates, so be it. All the more reason to get a GM responsible for NIL and talent acquisition to reduce the workload and importance of a coach.

next head coach contract language "Besides year 1, every season the team does not make a bowl game, the length of guarantee is shortened by one season" , however "if 100% of students graduate eligible to graduate, graduate from the university of Florida and the team has zero transfers or dropouts, you will be given the guaranteed year"

It’s easy to say you have the quick fix and all the answers when you have no way to test your theories. It’s a good job that pays a boatload of money. If you really think you’d be the game changer, why aren’t you doing it? Posting the same things over and over again here is never going get anything done.

Makes a lot of sense. If he donated to the NIL all it would do is make his job easier by getting better players. Unless Gainesville got a lot more expensive than when I lived there. Nice two bedroom apartment in the ghetto for 275 bucks a month. Five Star pizza and a six pack for 5 bucks.
