Exactly. And that’s precisely my point as to why DeSantis won’t appoint Gaetz to the U.S. Senate. His wagon is hitched squarely to Trump, and there are plenty of equally or better qualified DeSantis people out there. I don’t think DeSantis thinks 2026 is the end of his political career, so he’s going to put the person he wants in that seat, not do Trump the favor of appointing poor Matt who resigned his House seat for a nomination he might not be able to get confirmed to. About the best case for Gaetz, in terms of a DeSantis appointment, is probably whether he’d be one of the people in the running to fill the Florida AG seat if DeSantis appointed Ashley Moody to the Senate.
