Senator John Thune of South Dakota will be the new Senate Majority Leader: townhall.com/tipsheet/rebeccadowns/2024/11/13/senate-gop-leadership-race-n2647632 Thune was my second choice behind Rick Scott who was the first to be voted out of the race. In the head-to-head between Thune and John Cornyn, Thune won the position receiving 29 votes. Thune did go on record that he would make recess appointments which will allow Trump to get his appointments filled without significant delay and that he would support Trump's MAGA policies. Cornyn only said he would keep the Senate in session until Trump's appointments are approved and didn't say he would be a supporter of MAGA policy. What Cornyn said was not good enough so, since not Rick Scott, better to be John Thune presuming he will keep his word.
That doesn't tell me anything. It's well known that Rick Scott is disliked in the state. He just been benefits from having an R next to his name. Just because you vote for someone doesn't mean you like them. Desantis can't stand him either
As long as appointments sail through with no vetting and a blank check is provided to Trump, that is all that matters.
Trump didn't take a position in the election. That didn't stop Elon Musk from endorsing Rick Scott. It's done. Again, the two important issues are allowing recess appointments and supporting the MAGA agenda. John Cornyn is second in command to Mitch McConnell. It cost him the leadership when he didn't agree to recess appointments or a clear statement of support for the MAGA agenda. John Thune will do. He was the republican whip, not that the whip was used very often as the republicans in the senate were surrendered to the democratic leadership by Mitch McConnell. Republicans under McConnell rubber stamped everything the Biden/Harris administration until that lousy immigration bill John Cornyn helped to write.
That would assume that the people discussing it have the capacity to both read and comprehend. I am going with "no", almost no one knows what a recess appointment is.
I am just waiting for the modern day Enabling Act to be passed into law, so when the Dems take back the House and Senate in 2026, the Dic-tator Trump can simply have the Dems all arrested and he can rule without a Constitution or law making body to worry about.
