Not sure it’s not partially his fault. One thing to be animated another to look like a goober.

Not sure he cares what you think. He’s a college kid let him have fun. Should he get off your lawn?

6' 9" can play the 5. Dave Cowins and Wes Unseld were both 6' 9" on the programs. Maybe not quite that tall in reality. Both very effective.

Yeah, the Condo had possibly the best all-around game for us last night, with Alijah Martin a close second. Chinny-Chin-Chin showed a lot of promise.

That Chinyelu dunk from Richard’s pass was something else too, I thought he was going to rip off the rim

There weren't as many BIG bigs in that era as there are today. IIRC, Dave Cowens was 6'-8". A fave of mine because I was a Celtic fan when I actually watched the NBA. I'll overlook the fact that he was a Nolie. We all have our flaws.

Yes guys 6’9 now play the wing, or even guards. Ben Simmons is a 6’10 point guard for example. But then again, Horford has been playing center in now his 18th year at 6’9. Draymond Green at 6’9. Haslem played the post at 6’8. Clearly you have to be a certain type of badass to play as long as they have at their heights, and bring a lot of other qualities and skills to the game.

Haslem had some rare qualities. Powerfully strong, with wide shoulders and long arms, and of course great low-post skills.

Our offense just runs better. Lots of ball movement, lots of extra passes, limited turnovers, and really good shot selection. All much better than last year.

Much more active on defense without fouling (knock on wood).

Team playing really up tempo. Sometimes too up tempo, but much faster than last year.

Yeah I'd rather have him more animated and supportive of his teammates, creating energy, than glum and pissed off that he's not playing this year. I think Martin is just a no-nonsense kind of guy, but probably also appreciates Handlogten's enthusiasm and may have had a laugh about it after. But during game time Martin is all business, and that's fantastic.

Yes some guys are just built to play in the low post and have that alpha dog big man quality, even if they're a little short (not undersized) for the position

Yes I think he might be a streaky shooting team, as are most college teams, but I think where our success will hopefully come from is our defense, especially rebounding, and limiting 2nd chance points. That and hopefully limiting our turnovers. In other words, increase our # of possessions while decreasing theirs. We did this with great offensive rebounding last year. We still need to crash the boards on the offensive end but we definitely need to tighten up on the defensive end. That and don't let guards blow by us like last year.

If we can win the # of possessions battle, even if our 3pt shooting isn't great, we have plenty of guys that can score at the rim. That said, we also need to hit our FTs. We have lots of guys that can draw a lot of fouls. Guys like Chinyelu and Sam are going to need to make their FTs. Condo needs to be consistent at the line too, he's going to get fouled a lot. Might be the differences between close wins and losses. Thank god we offensively gifted guards that can shoot FTs very well. Will help us in late game situations.

Right. IMO, that's the formula Golden stumbled on last year that he hopes to replicate in a slightly different way this year due to better defense: more defensive stops (turnovers, rebounds) + early offense in transition = more possessions = more shots; more shots + more offensive rebounds = greater efficiency; and more possessions + greater efficiency = more points. We'll see how well it works.

precisely. And yes I actually understood what you said haha. That is the formula. I think JJ Redick with the Lakers is trying to employ the same formula. He said "I'm going to use math", and the formula makes sense. It simply allows you to miss a lot of shots & still win, because you're generating a lot more shot attempts than the other team

By the way, something that seems to have slipped under the radar (at least I didn't know of it until yesterday), is that Georgia Governor Kemp signed into law in September an act that allows Georgia colleges to pay players directly. Yep, it falls outside NCAA rules but they're doing it anyway until they get stopped. Virginia also passed a similar bill.

interesting, I wonder if this will have any impact on Urban getting cleared to play. I'm sure the NCAA will still adhere to their rules and be as hypocritical as always and play the semantics game.

As long as the rules are in place, of course they should adhere to them. I hope they declare ineligible any UGA player receiving direct pay from UGA. If the rules change, then so be it.
