Absolutely, if you watch Warchants podcast (I do, it's enjoyable this year) these firings were predictable and in fact the fan base was screaming for it. The theme seems to be to clean house and retain Norvell (they can't afford not to) and try to rebuild the thing. Warchant is expecting around a 50% roster turnover by the start of spring. The "hope" over there is that Norvell seems bust or boom and they hope they can utilize the transfer portal to climb back into a 6 - 6 or 7 - 5 outfit in 2025, and begin to recover in H.S. recruiting. At least that is what they are saying.
You're taking this down an entirely different rabbit hole to criticize Napier. My original response was to a guy seemingly praising FSU for making staff changes and stating UF had not made any. That was absurd and incorrect. You've taken it into game prep, self awareness and gravitas?
If DJL plays against FSU I'm thinking this will give us win #5. If not, coin toss for me. Aiden is a good kid, but, he's about on the same level as the two FSU QB's. This will be a rivalry game and a chance for the Holes to save a little face. Their defense does compete in the first half of games, but gets worn down or until their offense implodes. They will stack the box against UF if it's Warner. I do not mark this as a "automatic" but suspect, if all things remain equal, as in no DJL, UF may be a +3 going in.
Not sure I know where your coming from, but what did you, or anyone in Gator Nation expect when DJL went down, not to mention the other starters and second teamers that went down against UGA or were already on injured reserve. UF had a little streak, beat KY, got to 4-3 and then the roster got completely wiped out. Not to mention UF is in the meat of the "hard" games. We were not very good after KY but were competitive and the defense showed resurgence. Texas was a screw job by the scheduling committe. TX had a week off after UF played UGA, LMAO. How anyone gave UF ANY chance against them is beyond me. With Aiden Warner at QB? UF will get pounded by LSU and Ole Miss too. Deeper, Stronger, Better, at almost every position. Especially the Land Sharks. BTW they both have very good QB's, UF has.............Warner. Billy will have 4 home losses on the resume this year. Only prospect for another win is against the Holes. It would be nice to crush Vegas 4.5 win total against TSOW, but that is FAR from a lock.
Yo Smoot - R U Interested in purchasing 100 acres of Prime Pacific waterfront in Eastern Arizona? I got a hell of a fire sale going on it. PM me...........
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but if Lagway were to return this week, your prediction isn’t crazy.
my biggest concern of the gauntlet of the this schedule was staying healthy to even field a competitive team. Going back to back against brutal opposition, players always get dinged up. However, The hype began because we beat a terrible kentucky team, Kentucky is 1-6 in the league with texas left on their SEC schedule. They suck period -- Miss State is worse, so our 2 wins in the league are 1-12 in league play! Oh and lets throw 3-6 Samford in the mix and a terrible 4-6 UCF team. I honestly don't think we beat FSU -- and they might be the worst football team on our schedule. Also, mentioned this many times, very concerned about our entire future of the program resting on DJs shoulders -- its DJ or bust.
I would agree Rade "IF" he is MOSTLY healthy and mobile. (Really BIG IF). I think it would fire up the walking wounded, and LSU's hope for any BIG accomplishment went out with the Tide last week, so just maybe, with a rockin SWAMP, LSU down in their cups, the Gators could surprise. I won't be layin any dough on it myself.
Hoping for portal magic every year is no way to build a program. You still have to have top ten high school recruiting and then if you need to plug a hole or two with transfers (preferably in the trenches) then you can work with that. Miami getting a Cam Ward is not something you can count on as Half Ass U has demonstrated this year. Sure you can get lucky like they did last year but it won't be consistent.
Agreed and I would add the Warchant folks are coming to the conclusion that I came to before the season started. Travis was one hell of a college QB, and IMO arguably the best ever at Tally, and that includes Charlie Ward. He covered many flaws. My opinion is worthless when it comes to program building but my belief is you stock up on HS talent as much as possible and "fill holes" via the Transfer Portal, not the other way around like Norvell did. You may get lucky or you may have a bust, and the 24 Seminoles are competing for the greatest BUST in college football history this year.
Particularly since the talent that is in the portal is generally not 5 star talent. It's players that got lapped on the depth chart, or are looking for a payday from a desperate program. Best way is for a coach that is leaving one school for another and taking the best talent along with him.
