QB going forward discussion

I'll ask this again - Why didn't we see Millen?
It's not like Warner was lighting it up.

 

Even though he is not a traditional Gator level QB, I gotta admit I admire Warner's effort.

For us older guys, he gives me a little of a Larry Ochab (Dr. O) vibe.

Of course....we did go 0-10-1 that year.

 

Great question. He played almost an entire season at Colorado State. Had some pretty decent stats.

Warner didn't take a snap in his one season at Yale.

 

Now our program just has to catch up now that we are on somewhat equal footing. I just hope they keep trying as they seem to be funded. They are just dis functional and need to be leaders instead of followers.

 

The kid can tell his grandkids, yep , i started and got my ass whooped as a gator but we cant. He is better than us.

 

My uneducated guess is that he isnt the same guy post injury?

 

Seems like we have all our eggs in one basket…and a basket that may be fragile.

 

According to Shane Matthews our state of the art facility is already behind what several other SEC schools have and was built in such a way there is no room for expansion. Don’t shoot the messenger but this is what he said on his radio show.

 

Here is a snapshot of the QB's on the Florida Gator 2024 Roster.


Please note that of the 7 QB's on the roster, UF has:

• 4 true Freshmen (Lagway, Kessler, Wright, Williams)
• 1 Redshirt Freshmen (Warner)
• 1 Redshirt Junior (Millen)
• 1 Redshirt Senior (Mertz)
• Two of them are currently injured (Mertz and Lagsway)
• Only one QB who has more than 1 season with UF (Mertz)

What does Napier have to fill in the holes?

• 3 True Freshmen.
• 1 Redshirt Redshirt Freshmen
• 1 Redshirt Junior

Please note that the above 5 options are in their first year with UF.

Prior to Mertz going down a month ago:

• The only snaps these five were getting (and still are) was with the scout team (running the opposing defense for the next game).
• These five were only getting a wiff of the offense that the Mertz and Lagway were running.

Hopefully, Lagway will be ready for the next game, avoids injury, and the second, and third stringer can get some snaps and coaching up.

 

But are we ahead?

 

Not keeping up facilities with other SEC schools is one thing; having plans for expansion is another aspect. Not sure a young recruit would be aware or even care about expansion intentions. Normally, in construction, expansion of projects is shown on master plan designs. The potential to expand might include larger foundations should the structure go vertical or adequate space for horizontal expansion. Important expansion considerations include: civil scopes like parking, drainage, roads and MEP infrastructure expansions/tie-ins. These can easily be designed by competent architects and engineers; the thing that dooms many expansions is the actual costs relative to the budget that is notoriously under estimated. I have no idea where these facilities are but I’d be willing to bet expansion plans have been contemplated.

 

Can I tell my grandkids that I nearly got my ass whooped numerous times as a Gator, even though I wasn't on the football team?

It’s amazing how many fans we have who never watch practices and know who our best players are.

It’s also amazing how our coaching staff watches practice every day and don’t know who our best players are.

Amazing.

 

Millen was named by CFN as a freshman All American. But got passed over while injured. Had a high intercept rate, but had a great reception percentage and far more powerful arm than Warner.

 

Is he somehow in the doghouse?

 

More inclined to trust apk’s intuition. Trying to conserve the year of eligibility.

 

Is that likely to happen being he already used his rs and isnt injured?

 

NCAA is giving out extra years like candy. Who says he isn’t “injured”?

 

He is listed as the backup?
