So will Trump really do this? It would be a massive effort and have wide-ranging impacts, many negative impacts on various industries. I don’t see this happening - maybe only on a much smaller scale.

“Donald Trump is expected to mobilize agencies across the U.S. government to help him deport record numbers of immigrants, building on efforts in his first term to tap all available resources and pressure so-called "sanctuary" jurisdictions to cooperate, according to six former Trump officials and allies.”

    Promises made, promises kept.

It was a massive, expensive effort to take 10-to-12 million illegals in at one time.
And when questioning the cost to deport, what do you think it costs us to take care of them?

I am looking forward to the lineup of Americans falling over themselves to mow my lawn all year and clean my house on Tuesdays. Maybe some on this board want to come out of retirement?

and how many maga flag waving dudes in lifted trucks will be lining up to pick tomatoes? Ten bucks for one tomato might be just a tad inflationary.

I think there will have to be a lot of rights violations to carry this out successfully.

You are saying only minorities can mow a lawn or clean your house. Don't try to rationalize the racist comments. Just own them.

With the influx of immigrants there are costs related to civil support systems—like healthcare and utilities. But there are also gains, such as a ready supply of low-cost labor that we take for granted. And that labor is on demand which is perfect for an economy. If the government starts deportation efforts, we’d see the impacts in billions spent to deport and also increased inflation from the loss of labor. That will make it hard to argue that it’s actually saving us money. And not even getting into the humane impact of uprooting family members.

And I get the need for a controlled border. That sentiment is widely shared.

Hard to know if they are really serious about this on a mass scale or are simply hoping some will self-deport. In Florida alone, I wonder how many Cuban and Venezuelan refugees we have that are currently undocumented? I question whether a large scale effort to identify them and deport them to Cuba and Venezuela would be well received.

I split a smaller ZTR with my neighbor and our wives mow our 1/2 acre lots. Of course, he and I are stuck with edging and trimming ….. but all in all it works pretty well.

The guys who treat our lawn are Anglo and they also mow if a homeowner so desires.

Nothing remotely close to the $96B in taxes that they pay each year.

Considering that they aren't eligible for government benefits and that the overly majority are employed, it probably costs very little to "take care of them" and the indirect cost (their removal from the labor market) of deporting them will probably exceed the direct cost (rounding them up, housing them pending deportation and transporting them back to their home countries) of deporting them. I'm all in favor of removing illegals who have committed real crimes not those whose only crime is their status.

Interesting anecdote, I watched an interview of Mexican American citizens who voted Trump and actually support his crackdown. The irony is that they originally entered the country illegally from Mexico and were given legal status under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, the Act signed into law by President Reagan that provided amnesty for most undocumented immigrants in the country at the time the law was signed and ultimately became American citizens. Kind of like the Cuban Americans who are supporting Trump's proposal to deport Venezuelans who fled a Marxist dictatorship in their home country even though the Cubans or their parents or grandparents fled a similar Marxist dictatorship. I suspect that if there was still a Soviet Union and the Chavez/Maduro government of Venezuela had a close association with said Soviet Union the Venezuelans would be welcomed rather than demonized.
