Will the Democrat Pary swing more left?

They should but they won't. Here is a tweet from this Dem rep from NY. Ritchie Torres is exactly correct. And if you disagree with his position below, guess what, you are part of the far left.

Torres wrote: "Donald Trump has no greater friend than the far left, which has managed to alienate historic numbers of Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and Jews from the Democratic Party with absurdities like 'Defund the Police' or 'From the River to the Sea' or 'Latinx.'"

 

Swing "more" left is a great idea. Trying to pick up "working class" people does not equate to swinging more left.

 

I think it needs to swing back to the center. A lot of people voted against Trump in '20 and not for Biden. They were tired of the craziness of Trump during COVID and wanted a steady hand on the tiller to get the country out of COVID and back to normal. They wanted a caretaker POTUS to get us to the next generation of leaders. Because Trump is Trump, he lost the Republicans the Senate in Georgia and gave the Democrats control of the House and Senate. By appealing to Biden's vanity, Democrats were able to convince him that he could be the next FDR if he went big with the Green New Deal. That is not what the country wanted and it back fired on Democrats this year. The NYTimes autopsy of the election also points out the "Kamala is for they/them" ad that Trump won really broke through with key groups.

Yes, liberals will have you think that the far right is just as extreme as the far left. But this country in general is center right for the most part.

 

There is far left on various social issues. And a far left on economic issues.

MAGA appeals to far left economic populism and shifted some of that base to the Republican side. That is exactly the working class male vote. The “lefties are all woke and for they/them” also appeals to those men and evangelicals, whether the attacks are even true or not. The right wing definitively pushes the mindshare of “woke” issues multiples more than the left, their version of “identity politics”.

Yep. A populist economic message could be successful, but shifting left on social issues is what lost them those working class voters in the first place.

As that NYT post-mortem @CaptUSMCNole posted notes, the Trump campaign’s core strategy for peeling off working class males of all races was to use out-of-touch wokeism to paint Harris as an unserious fool.

 

Maybe so but social media has become a megaphone for the fringe. This forum often takes the worst of Maga and indicts all Republicans with little to no middle ground or nuance. Some of our more extreme right members contribute to that and while I know a few brain washed Magas personally, an overwhelming majority would rather he just went away and the republican party could just move on. A few though recirculate hate porn pages like DCdraino, libs of tik tok, etc and they garner the most attention and responses.

Conversely, my democrat circle of friends are generally pretty damn moderate however my Facebook feed is dominated by a few of my more liberal friends who have been and are now incessantly spamming my feed with hyperbolic condemnations of Republicans, persecution fear, black profile pics of mourning, etc.

All anecdotal of course but people use anecdotal evidence to form their beliefs unfortunately so while things like the more radical trans issues, anti Israel demonstrations, gender/racial outliers are what much of the general public perceives of the democratic party for now. Again, I stay apolitical on social media but I see what people post.

One example, I don't hear about looting or riots anymore but Ocasios soundbite claiming looters were stealing bread and milk to survive was once in heavy circulation while being overdubbed over footage of Nike stores being looted. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just stating my belief as to why these perceptions exist. Well, that and of course good old entertainment news rage reporting as well.

 

I say move farther left. Just being far left like Harris/Walz wasn't enough. I say the Dems run AOC/Tlaib in 28. Think that would be a hell of a ticket!

 

I dont think they can swing anymore to the left unless they want to become socialists. They lost their base when they fell off the cliff. If they want their base, they need to come back to the center. Giving more money to illegals over homeless, the elderly, and the poor, makes no sense even to the most hardcore liberals.

 

Is it fair to say that Joe Rogan's endorsement of Trump was way more impactful than Taylor Swift and Beyonce's endorsement of Harris?
Trump seemed to pick up a large number of men, first time voters even in the Latino crowd.

 

I hope the dems never realize their problem is progressivism. Hmmmmm, once you're an irrational progressive, can you ever return to the center?

 

I think he picked them up for the same reason he got Rogan’s endorsement, not because he got Rogan’s endorsement.

But Trump definitely had a strategy of betting on being able to turn out men (who tend to be a less reliable voting bloc).

But as I noted in the Taylor Swift thread, I question the value of those endorsements because they primarily interest people who were already reliable - and reliably Democratic - voters, which means they don’t ultimately move the needle much.

 

You cling to your charts and graphs and keep plotting away.
Truth hurts and DEI is dead.
Hopefully your next candidate gets this. It is unhealthy for young libbies…they’re having trouble breathing.
