Just how do you know that the old man “could not have never been a threat”? You aren’t even bothering to ask what he did to empty the seats around him and require the police to get up there. That is a pretty important piece of information wouldn’t you say? I would like to see you go up 20-30 rows into the stands and get a large, drunk, obnoxious, and potentially violent or already violent man to leave so that the people who paid $150-$200 to sit in those empty seats around said asshole could get back into their seats quickly, while worrying about not hurting him and not getting injured yourself.
No matter what they did, they were well beyond the point of submission and furthermore cops MUST say “you are detained, do not resist” and then do what’s necessary to detain. That point was well beyond. That they blew proper protocol twice in the same game says a lot to me. Neither one of those were properly handled but you don’t have to believe me, keep following the story. Frankly, I don’t care about them in any major way, just don’t want rogue cops beating the hell out of people.
Wow you just equated hitting a baseball, the hardest thing to do in sports to not understanding at all what to do on your job. MLB players do things that boggle the mind. A bad cop is not a bad day, especially twice. Ugh this was such a normal and better conversation with normal people.

Kirby’s brother was still trying to fight. He had not yet submitted. The video appears to support your claim on submission on the other two guys but I would want witness statements to support that. I’m no big supporter of police. There are enough bad ones out there that they have earned some mistrust. Police unions should be banned. But I also witnessed what I witnessed on Saturday in Jax, first hand. In both cases I witnessed everything from about 15 minutes prior to the police walking down the steps. They should have been called and gave both guys plenty of warning to behave or they would be removed. If they called me as a witness I would easily and honestly say that the three cops handling our section were very professional and used necessary force when they had to. Those assholes distracted an entire section, and made people evacuate their seats for quite a while.
Apparently the policy is that the stadium security asks you to leave. If you refuse to leave they then get the police involved. So I guess by the time the police get there it's already an escalated situation.

Yeah, that is about the one Georgia fan; their explanation about the stuff that happened down in the SW corner doesn't cut it. Jacksonville stadium staff is *by far* the worst stadium staff of all the stadiums I've been to (I've been to a few, and many times). The second worst staff is the staff in the SWAMP (which may be the same company as who does the games in Jax). They are friendly on the west side of the stadium, but they are AHs on the east side (@ BHG). That's not to say that they are *all* like that, they are not; there are always some nice ones mixed in, but however they are trained, they are simply not well equipped to deal with people who are intoxicated. I used to chalk it up to my perspective as a student, but now I watch the games differently, and I've seen it from both sides. You don't try to manage a drunk fan by violence first and foremost, that's stupid and it needs to be called to task. It's one thing to grab and subdue somebody, but the repeated blows to somebody's head is completely unacceptable. Shame on JSO for their explanation on that 2nd issue. It's really a disgrace. Have they released the police camera footage for that second issue yet? I haven't seen it. In my experience, LSU has the most laid back approach, but I can't speak to what all issues people may complain about there. I saw a police officer watching a student pour a drink right in front of her; and she just said, "really, you're going to do that right in front of me?" The student said "my bad" and that was it...lol. She made him empty it out, but that is as far as it went. Nobody was kicked out...nobody needed to be. Just implement a little common sense and quit hating on people who don't handle themselves well. There's a proper way to manage these folks without the heavy hand. Think about it, we've all likely had to deal with managing a drunk friend at some point in time; was beating the crap out of them ever a proper solution? To @AgingGator who I think was asking about safety for the officers above, you have to remember that everybody entering the stadium goes through an intensive security check. There is no threat from folks in the stadium. De-escalation needs to be made a higher priority. I appreciate the tradition of the WLOCP, but I wouldn't shed a tear if we rip that treasure of a game from that city. It will shine wherever it is played. If you are asked to leave the premises and refuse, at that point it becomes criminal trespass (on top of whatever charges relate to the public drunkenness and disturbance). Of course even if is criminal trespass, it isn’t an either/or. It can ALSO be excessive force on the part of police.
This an effin GREAT idea. It would add a deterrent, get good due process to the officers in question and still take care of citizens. It’s a kin to malpractice for a doctor. There would be inherent problems but generally I love this idea.
Yeah and Trespassing is almost always a misdemeanor and the cops broke many many felonious acts here. Not to mention constitutional ones. Some don’t seem to understand that while it is correct and slightly important what happened before we pretty much see what happened with the big guy. And while we don’t see what the act was with the old guys, the result of what the cops did is the same in both videos which is scary.

Just pure statistical logic. Is it more likely that two cops on the same day at the same park working together give an eye popping PUMMELING which was definitely brutal and over the top being caught on tape or that there was a guy sitting there right or wrong, getting beaten whete if he fell down those seats he could have truly died of a brain injury. And then it happened again later to an old ass man that was eventually not conscious. They are quite lucky they didn’t kill someone because this conversation wouldn’t even be happening.
Per statute but concise: Yes, if a police officer is improperly beating you, you have the right to use reasonable force to protect yourself, as this would constitute excessive force and you are legally allowed to defend against imminent harm, even if the aggressor is a police officer; however, it's crucial to remember that resisting arrest is still a crime, so only use force when absolutely necessary and proportionate to the threat you face. also if you are under arrest and being detained it has to be deliberately and successfully called out. From the News 4 Jax link: JSO said the incident began around 4:20 p.m., when the man, identified as Walter Brown, accused a stadium worker of “kidnapping his children and threatening to kill [the stadium worker.]” “At this point in time, the stadium worker decided that she did not want to be the victim of a battery, however, she did want JSO to respond and evict the attendee from the stadium,” a JSO spokesman said. Two JSO officers, Officer Kelly and Officer Bowers, approached Brown upon the stadium worker’s request and asked him to leave the game. Body-camera footage shows Brown did not comply with this request and began resisting.
Likewise if the roles were reversed and that was a white cop beating the shit out of a black fan the usual suspects would be trotting out their tired “he should have just complied” nonsense.
