My "rage, rage against the dying of the light" manifests itself in my persistent attempts to avail myself of the expressive capacity that my native tongue provides, regardless of the medium. It's like given a choice between a sophisticated weapon and a rock for self defense: Why choose the rock when, with care and instruction, we can learn to use the better tool? As one who savors the literature of Orwell, Waugh, and Elliot, I greatly appreciate the care you put into your words. It beats the Hell out of "Gators rule, Noles suck!!"

Even though both sentiments are true...

Her memories of the events leading up to the game are not as clear as mine.

I tend to be skeptical of memories, especially my own. I tend to desire precision in expression. There are times in my life when my memories and impressions are quite vivid, and the week in the story above stands out quite clearly. Ranger School is another such time. I have a 100-plus page Word doc of my Ranger School story. I share it with anyone I encounter that was with me in that time (classmates, instructors, cadre), to a) validate my memories and B) gather theirs into the narrative. I'd say I'm batting 90% on accuracy, based on their feedback.

I went to Ranger School in the 80s (I had 26 years in the Army). I would love to read it...
