Well he chose Napier over those other programs this time last year and he saw the team improve as a starter. I think that he knew that this team was about to break out yesterday before the injuries.

You are right that we have no idea what he will do. I hope he stays and takes care of unfinished business!

I thought Wayne Peace and Kerwin Bell were pretty good QB's. That covers 1980 through 1987 so I don't think Florida struggled at QB in the 80's.

See Donald Douglass. Granted, he only had Emmitt around him as the team was reeling from the Pell-era sanctions

That's like saying Ed Orgeron was the sensation a few years ago. Everyone knew he wasn't, and everybody knew Dykes wasn't. Both had a long record of mediocrity. Cignetti is 127-35 as a head coach. He is a known commodity of success. I don't know that he is what we want, but there is no need to downgrade him for your own biases.

You're definitely right about Peace and Kerwin. But he did say late 80s, so I think he meant the Donald Douglas/Kyle Morris/Lex Smith years at the end of the decade.

I don't have any biases here. I'm not saying we shouldn't hire him, everything is a dice roll. I just think he's far from the obvious slam dunk that some think him to be.

Also Kyle Morris and Herb Perry. Lex Smith anyone? He ended his career as a reserve DE.

I can't argue his success here one way or the other because some have better success at one place than other, like Riley at USC v. OU. He would have a much harder road here than at IU.

Peace was decent but they had him throw those idiotic long sideways passes constantly, mostly for no or little gain. Idiotic!

Now, speaking of rumors and players' mothers (another thread) . . . this post was taken down but, apparently, the word going around is that ETN's mother was texting Gator players and complaining they hit widdle Twevor too hard.

my post specifically said late 1980s. In1989 alone we had a qb roster that utilized Donald Douglas (nice guy who played on my intramural softball team), Kyle morris and lex smith.

cumulative passing stats from that year…

    1628 yards passing
    10 tds
    11 interceptions
    49.1% completion percentage

Man we had a hard time throwing.

Pyburn is turning into a monster. It’s fun to watch him crash down the line.

Gates coming downhill on those tfl was a thing of beauty. Haven’t seen that from our D in a long time.

If Cignetti isn't the obvious slam dunk, then who is?
