Yeah, I don’t know. I listened to his Monday press conference this morning, and he doesn’t sound like a man who gets it to me. But I might just be irretrievably annoyed at his glacial and monotone cadence.

I’m shocked pro teams don’t adopt this model. You’d think pro teams can get fans to use “NIL” to circumvent caps and boost pay

The reality is it’s the name of the game. You need a top QB to compete and many of the top QBs are transfers. Ward was known to be an elite talent.

Is it repeatable? IMO no less repeatable than banking on HS recruiting.

Oregon has had two straight elite transfers. Riley has won like 3 Heismans with transfers. But FSU shows it’s no guarantee. And recruiting is no guarantee clearly. Arnold and Niko cost millions and they are mediocre at best

Fans want to win. Maple Leaf fans would sell a kidney for a cup. If it’s cap circumvention then the owners couldn’t pay extra anyways

To be fair we are doing NIL for billion dollar universities that are clearly enriching not just the football staff but the administrative complex.

To be clear, I’ll be thrilled with winning, whether that’s under Napier, Kiffin, or whoever. When you’re winning, you get to do all kinds of things that are off, such as refusing to hire an on-field Special Teams Coordinator, having a two-headed coaching beast for the OL, or speaking to the media like you’re on your third Xanax of the day. When you’re losing, those same things tend to be more irritating.

It’s an interesting business model. Fan based NIL for pro teams. MLB average players, NHL, and NFL (non QBs) could likely be swayed by an extra mil or two.

They kind of do in the form of commercial endorsements.

They do. Big markets (like Toronto in the NHL) get a big edge there. Fans will get in on the action, it’s just a matter of when.

Professional teams circumvent the cap. Dodgers have a $355M annual cap allocation but with deferred salaries, have it adjusted down to $241M. NFL teams do it also when veterans restructure their contracts.

What I would like to see happen are multi-year contracts with full disclosure on NIL for college athletes. They want to transfer, let them pay the buyout. Let's see who is getting what.

In Muschamp's dead-man walking year we were rated about 90 for a time. There were just very, very few commitments at all. McElwain salvaged it somewhat, but I still think we finished somewhere in the mid-20's. The positive about the current situation is that there is some ability to make up for the lack of HS signees by using the portal.

But with the tge drafy and cap, it doesnt affect rosters so it would make zero sense unless it were legit investment.

They likely won’t be on board until/unless…

    1) Napier is replaced- new coach brings optimism and $ likely flows to NIL accordingly

    or

    2) Florida finishes the season strong (8+ wins, maybe 7 if it includes a win over Georgia). Optimism over the future likelj gets some more $ flowing into NIL.

You wouldn’t give fan NIL to a draftee (maybe MLB) to get them to skip college.

It would affect free agency. Depending on the sport teams are capped at what they can offer. The entire financial package includes the offer plus endorsements minus taxes. Fan NIL adds to that
