I tried to watch this game, but I despise these two teams so much that I started getting ill... I got so sick and had to change the channel to keep from puking chunks across the room.
We did blow that game, but that Noles team probably beats this Noles team by 28. I think you guys are underestimating how trash their offense is.
Bravo post, Skink. Spot on. Even nuanced and thoughtful. What’d you do take your medicine today? I so want Billy to succeed and think we are very close. All the younguns’ are the real deal, recruiting and portal have been really good despite the noise in the system( I know, I know better OL, DL.) Your point - I’d hate to break it all up if we are on the cusp. The guys on the sidelines really pull for each other, nobody has quit on the coaches and those kids never get in trouble in the summer. All so refreshing in this day and age. Please Billy, get us to a bowl game and a winning record. I really want to see how this all plays out next year. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
2 Wins against teams over .500 in 32 games. Before we consider this thing turned around that needs to change! A coaching staff may make a boneheaded call here and there with some even making a difference on the scoreboard but to cost your team 2-3 wins per year because of bonehead calls is inexcusable. The most recent of which was Tennessee....you just cant insist on going turtle ball and clam up just because you're up 3 points and every possession is valuable the most valuable of which are those that build momentum going into the half....sitting on the ball with two timeouts and 1:30 left with an all world kicker...he needs to learn that real quick...not after 3 years.
Has Billy beaten any teams against the spread? Have we won a single game in his tenure where we were not the favorite? Currently in our 4 wins their record is 10-21, and none have a winning record. Billy continues to hurt us in close games, for example in the UT game he cost us between 10-17 points. Why do we continue to expect someone to change that has shown no ability to change? He does not see that he is the problem. The kids are great, and playing hard. They deserve better.
We beat cupcake teams and now people think we are world beaters...the predictor of future behavior is past behavior..we have 1 win in the tank left for this season and it aint against UGA.
@awells05 Both of our most recent wins were against the spread. We were underdogs to UCF and UK I believe. We also beat the spread on UT, obviously.
I stand corrected. Wow that also shows how bad Vegas viewed us. We beat the spread against Tennessee but still lost. I should have been more specific around that.
As a former supporter turned ready to move on I'll defend the potential improvement we've seen despite the fact that Kentucky and ucf aren't good. I don't think most here are claiming we are "world beaters" but we have struggled to stop even bad teams under Napier so while the last two wins haven't been against juggernauts, the defense has looked much better than what we've seen for the past 3 years and definitely better than what we saw to start this year. We gave up 200 more rushing yards than miss state averaged. We couldn't get Charlotte off the field last year. We've looked much better the past two weeks and even against Tennessee so that's the reason for any optomism.
Nothing in this season has changed my mind…..write the check to Napier and move on. He will never reach the level of achievement Gator fans expect and deserve. See ya’ Billy.
So we went from terrible to ok, I dont think that should be our barometer here. We are an average team, with our talent in state and facilities we should never be this bad. We can have a 6-6 or 7-5 year but that should be the bottom. We are staring another losing season in the face. If that happens their should be no discussion. If he goes 6-6 it should be based on how we looked. If we get blown out the next two weeks, the fanatics will all come back out and he will be gone. If we play close games, beat one of LSU or Ole Miss and beat FSU. He probably stays. I personally would have moved on after TX A&M. However, with the way the portal works now, I have no issue with them holding on to him all year. If we are 5-7 he should unquestionably be fired.
I'm not arguing against any of that. I try to be as objective as I can and again, that's pretty much where he is at. My only point was to counter the hyperbole that some claim we are "world beaters" because some have seen the defense improve for the first time in years regardless of the competition it was against. That's not some big endorsement of Napier it's just an observation and one of the last threads of hope that some progress has finally been made and maybe it's a symptom of some sort of change in methodology that paid off in results we've been looking for. No one is certain the improvement will continue but I haven't seen DBs and linebackers attacking downfield in years. Stopping short yardage situations has been almost impossible as well. Seeing these sudden improvements is in stark contrast to anything we've seen in years. That's all.
Meaning Miami's fan base is pathetic. Their home crowds are pathetic. Not sure what they have for facilities now but they were also behind for a while. They haven't been relevant forever and haven't even won their division in the ACC and yet.....they have money to buy rosters and become relevant overnight. That and with the open abandonment of anything college experience in "college football" South Beach now sells itself along with this kind of open money shift to the "students."
