Yes also hope he lets the game come to him. I don’t know if you saw the same in the scrimmage but I think a bulk of our offense will come from our deep and talented perimeter players and the bigs will get most of their points on pick and rolls, maybe some pick and pops, and some dishes off penetration. Samuel was great at taking his guy off the dribble. It’s asking too much of Condon at this stage to replace that, but maybe some flashes of that here and there without having to rely on that part of his game offensively
Do people really expect much out of him offensively? My understanding is that he was a real late bloomer who grew a lot as junior/senior and was way wind in skill development as a big. But big, athletic, physical. If he can give us something like Condon/Haugh did last year (15 mpg, handful of rebounds/putbacks/finishes), I will be happy.
Would be a great lineup for Klavzar, too. Lots of help on the perimeter and in the paint, but a unit that needs a little scoring punch.
Just based on what I've heard and the little bit of video I've seen, that pretty much sums what I think will be his ceiling for this season. Come in, play hard, grab rebounds, defend, and block shots. He CAN make 3s but his percentage was not good enough last season to make me think that's a shot I want him firing away much.
We're less than a week from the opener and we still don't know if he can play at all. That's frustrating.
I’m bored and desperate for the season to start so I’ll start a game. Name a player from the past, then chime in on who on our roster best matches. I will go first: Will Yeguette. Do we have anybody that matches?
You're selling Will Yeguete short. He was Mr. Glue for a team that went 38-3. As for a match to Yeguete on this year's edition? I'll say Sam Alexis, based on what I've heard...but senior Yeguete is better than junior Alexis.
Donovan LOVED Yeguete. Could defend four positions, elite help defender and offensive rebounder for his size, and great passer for a big.
Wasn’t Yaguete basically a 3 who was very streaky on offense? Great kid who worked hard on defense but probably wasn’t as good on offense as Clayton, Richard, Martin, Condon, Haugh , Aberdeen, Klavsar, or Kublicas. I haven’t seen Alexis play so I don’t how they compare. My recollection of Will was that he was a great kid, hard worker, good defender but limited on offense. Nobody on our current roster reminds me of him.
Will had absolutely amazing hands for stripping the ball away on defense! Yeguete uniquely reminded me of the ACC player (a guard) from 20+ (maybe 30) years ago who was known for being able to steal the ball from opposing dribblers at clutch moments, which he did over and over in big games. That guy made it into the NBA and played for a while based on his defensive skills, but never made it big in the NBA. I still remembered that guy's name back when Yeguete played. I'm not even sure anymore which ACC team he played for. Sad getting old! I'd love to be reminded of who that ACC guy was if it rings a bell for anyone...
agreed, it was lack of recognition making him a step slow, not lack of quicks. Haugh has an incredible amount of potential and it'll be interesting to see how far he can grow into it this season.
