    1. Just a few weeks ago I drove into Dawsonville and stopped at the infamous Pool Room. Got a really good cheeseburger and perhaps the best onion rings I ever ate. If you have no idea about this place, try looking up Awesome Bill from Dawsonville.

    2. One of my favorite waterfalls is Amicalola Falls and the State Park Lodge that's very nice.

    3. And a shout out to Hofer's Cafe in Helen, GA. Helen is too busy for me on weekends but I'll make the trip anytime if I get to eat some bakery goods from Hofer's.

It's the last state that I have to drive through to get to Florida.

I won’t post link in case it’s not allowed. But Google his name and “greatest sports headline ever”

While still in Navy, back in Spring of 2003, I had to go to two two-week Navy schools in Athens, GA (There was a small Navy Base there, who knew?). Our Gators off of Ron Zook's first year had just given UGA it's only loss, keeping the 13-1 LegHumpers from a Natty. I proudly wore my Gator clothing everywhere when not in school. The locals were not jerks like you find in Tally, a lot of, "We'll get you next year" (They didn't).

I did meet Mark Richt at a Japanese steakhouse, He sat at the same table as me. He told me his special dislike/respect for Florida, playing at UM and getting his coaching start at FSU, but he did repeat that on the field, 'Coach Zook had my Gators ready and got the best of his team.' He was a nice guy, sad with what the disease of Parkinson can do to people.

Surprisingly, Athens is a quaint beautiful little college town with a Nice Highway Loop around the town. Even back in '03, the Navy Sailors there could tell you the fastest "Time" they had made it around the loop. Never been a surprise to me all the young kids with fast cars getting in trouble in Athens. Grateful Gainesville does not have a built-in Raceway around the city. (How fast was AR going on the back road again?) The stadium is neat as you can drive by it and look into the horseshoe shape stadium.

I returned to Athens for the 2022 UGA/Tenn top 5 matchup. Small Navy Reunion from my first squadron, most were Tenn or UGA fans, they bought the good tickets if I would show. Wore my Gator clothing proudly. Asked a lot of "Are u lost?" To which I replied 'Here as a referee, already lossing to both of you, all TN fans know UF should have won, and all UGA fans know UF won the 3rd quarter' which I would get laughter. Sanford stadium has extremely loud music pumped into it, only bad memory there. Being at a UGA game, you learn how to spell G-E-O-R-G-I-A, a lot, like much of us can spell BANANA thanks to Gwen Stefani. UGA fans are really proud they can spell their State Name.

The best part is you get to hear the Southern Classic 'I've been working on the Railroad" just as much. Still not sure why their band plays it.

Thanks for that Garettk. I’ve read all his books and don’t recall reading about that headline. Hilarious!
He was a talented writer and great wit. Left us too soon.

Not sure if you’re referring to Grizzard but he wrote a poignant and very profound piece about WWII veterans in general and his Dad in particular, who was a WWII Vet. Grizzard himself would have most likely been rejected for military service because of a bad heart. He died at age 47 in part because of heart related issues.

Fresh, in season peaches. Vidalia onions. The beautiful parks in north Georgia like Unicoi or Tallulah Gorge. Tubing the Chattooga. A hot Bavarian pretzel while overlooking the river at Hofbrauhaus. Watching Spurrier hang 52 Between the Hedges in 1995 with me and my friends in the end zone razzing Smart so many times that he muffed a kick off return.
