The next four games for his job…is Napier smart enough to realize that or does he think he’s got an ironclad deal with Stricklin for a fourth year? He seems relatively unstressed for the situation he’s in. I don’t think he can survive losing the next four. He can’t possibly survive another 5-7 record can he? I know we are told to be patient but there has to be a limit, especially with the 50th ranked recruiting class. One part of me wants Billy to win one and survive but another part of me wonders if that is just delaying the inevitable. I really don’t see any way we win 10 games next year with Billy at the helm. I’m conflicted.
I think he has to win 7 games at this point. Miami, A&M, and Tennessee has pit tge pressure on. He has to win a couple legit games to survive.
Imo 7 he is safe, 5 he is gone......6-6 is the wild card and probably depends on how they "look" in those next 4 games.
You may be right, but it's incredible to me that 6-6 would get another year. Three seasons without a winning record speaks for itself and it says adios.
6-6 means we beat 1 of 7 ranked teams. FSU should be a gimme 6-6 only works if the extra win is UGA or maybe Texas. Beating LSU or Ole Miss plus FSU shouldn’t be enough.
Expectations for the program are in the toilet. There is no way to spin 1-6 vs ranked teams other than an epic disaster
Not an unreasonable argument....but there are some other factors -I believe he told them he intended a total rebuild from ground up and that takes time (certainly debatable) -toughest schedule in the nation -the team clearly likes him and has never quit....could be an ugly exodus if team feels he deserves to stay -not a particularly attractive field of options to replace him Losing record erases some of those items, but does making a bowl make a difference?
It's interesting that you mention him, because in TheRant someone started a thread asking if anyone else thinks A&M is doing PEDs... We need an entire college football league testing right the freak now. Lol..
Well... now's the time for the team and Billy to make their case on the gridiron. All the sex appeal on paper is meaningless, if it can't translate to results on the scoreboard--and any case to be made wrt Napier getting another year must be made now, during the season, else it will ring hollow, if the whole of it is based on the empty promise of how wonderful the team looks on paper. It's like buying an expensive product based on the catalog pics and description, finding it to be defective and non-functional, calling the company about a refund, and having them point you to the catalog and read the description and fluff promises again... Just not very compelling against actual first-hand experience.
6-6 was what i thought going in and how tge games were played would be key.. we were terrible against miami and A&M. Then Napier shitvthe bed against Tennessee, tge kids pkayed well in tgat one and dezerved a win. FSU sucks so that win doesnt count towards saving his job. In my mind, he needs two wins other than fsu. Two wins against decent teams. That would be Ole miss and LSU. That still usnt an overall season tgree success but had we beat Tennessee and made it 8-4, that would be decent progress. Tennessee debacle is still stinging.
In my mind, considering the following, there are no metrics at this point for his staying or going. 1) Interim President may not want to get involved. Fuchs was president when we hired him. 2) Stricklin for various reason my give him a lot more leeway than normal. 3) Boosters may not want to fork over the money to buy him out at this point, considering we may lose a good part of the team and we will need more money to buy out the staff, pay for incoming portal players, and overpay for incoming recruits. 4) No Saban, Meyer or SOS on the horizon... If you go with a current SEC coach you might be getting someone marginally better than CBN. Anyone outside the SEC is a big risk (IMO). Nothing would surprise me at this point - crapping the bed or a great team last 5 games. Retaining or firing irrespective of the record - Very good recruiting class or class falling apart. Anyone who thinks they know what will happen is deluding themselves. These are strange days and normal doesn't apply
Recruits won’t come play for a loser. Texas A&M got two huge recruits after the came back to stomp LSU
How the games are played makes a big difference to my opinion. Texas A&M and Miami were horrible showings and Tennessee was just terrible. Had we played Miami and Texas A&M well and beat Tennessee and FSU was a top 10 team and we end up six and six, I can see it. But there has been nothing this year that it's encouraging so far. Our team definitely looks better but it's time to show that they're better and beat LSU and Ole Miss.
For the right price, Players will play wherever. Our boosters aren't writing the checks right now because they don't know who their coach is going to be next year. First, we have to know who the coach will be because if there is a change, we are going to lose a bunch in the portal and gain a bunch in the portal more than likely. Lots and lots of contracts have to be rewritten. Hopefully that decision has made sooner than later.
A LOT of our boosters weren't writing those checks when they knew who our coach was going to be....they just don't like NIL.
We brought in a couple five star players last year and somebody wrote those checks. I would think there would be more checks to come if we would win some damn games.
