son of House Ways and Means Committee chairman raking in big bucks from his campaign and from lobbyists for "consulting" ‘Reeks Of Corruption’: Son Of High-Ranking Dem Raked In Hundreds Of Thousands From Dad’s Campaign, Lobbyists The son of Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Richard Neal — leader of the House Ways and Means Committee — raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars in consulting fees from his father’s campaign and pressure groups who were actively lobbying his dad on tax policy, according to Politico. Richard Neal’s son Brendan Neal launched a one-person public affairs firm offering “political advice, lobbying and strategic communications” in 2020, roughly one year after his father became the ranking member on Ways and Means — the sole congressional committee with jurisdiction to introduce federal tax legislation, Politico reported. Brendan Neal went on to receive a total of $196,340 from his father’s campaign for “strategic consulting services,” $20,000 from Van Heuvelen Strategies, which had interests in at least six different Ways and Means issues, and $252,500 from a client of a lobbyist who was simultaneously working for Blackstone to protect the carried-interest rate, which allows individuals working in the financial industry to pay a lower tax rate. “Lobbyists sending huge amounts of money to the son of a particularly powerful politician, who has a great deal of control over tax policy, just reeks of corruption,” Morris Pearl, chair of Patriotic Millionaires — a coalition of wealthy Americans concerned about income inequality — told Politico. “Almost anyone, including the clients of the lobbyists who are concerned about tax policy, would conclude that these lobbyists are trying to curry favor with Representative Neal for their clients.”
This will be interesting to see play out. Particularly given that Republicans have clearly demonstrated that they are perfectly willing to not just tolerate, but enable, the criminal use of government power to further political aims. Anyone remember a sitting President trying to overturn an election, for example, and the Republican leadership almost entirely lining up to defend and even lie to justify it?
I would draw the poster’s attention to the Republican’s nominee for President. He is the most criminally corrupt and morally bankrupt candidate this country has ever experienced.
Good point, sir. Biden and Harris were each charged with over 80 felonies, and convicted of 34 in the only trial a corrupt Trump-appointed judiciary would even let go to trial.
While you support a dictator that unleashes the department of justice against a political opponent which only occurs in third world countries. Who ignores Supreme Court rulings. Who is guilty of having classified documents in his basement, but tries to convict his political opponent of the same thing.
Shhh. Don't tell this poster how many of the cases against convicted felon Trump were brought on the state level, totally absent any and all input from the DOJ.
1. Being a politician or candidate for President doesn't mean you can commit crimes with impunity. 2. His 34 felony convictions didn't come from a case prosecuted by the DOJ. Your projecting is pathetic.
He was prosecuted by a former DOJ attorney that conveniently went to work for the NYC DA before filing charges. As a former judge, can you honestly say those charges are going to stick? Even the NY Court of appeals has serious issues with the abuse of power by the NY attorney general in her case against Trump. It’s almost a given that case will be overturned any day now.
