    A couple more guys- Stripling and Brookins- have continued to hit well and put themselves on the list for playing time. Probably could mention McDonald, too, but he needs a few more hits to convince me. Today also presented two chances for Shelton to show defensive skills. He made a nice dive to his left to grab a ground ball single and prevent a runner from second from scoring. A couple of plays later, he made a good dive to his right and bounced up to throw out the batter.

    FWIW my current current lineup:

    1B/3B Stripling/Boser
    2B Kurland
    SS Shelton
    LF Brookins
    CF Cyr
    RF Evans

    I feel certain the opening day lineup will be different, but those guys have had good success in the first half of the fall.

    One more tidbit, Michael Byrne is back in Gvl after TJ surgery and will be a student assistant while he gets closer to graduation. He was in the orange dugout today.

    Here is a summary of the October 23 scrimmage.
    For those who have not been to a scrimmage it is a hybrid game.
    A team may only bat 7 or 8 players. Some players that bat do not play in the field. Other players in the field may not bat.
    Games begin in the 5th or 6th inning.

    If a player on first tries to steal second and is thrown out, he goes back to first. An out is registered.

    With that in mind, here we go.

    Orange is visitors. Game begins in fifth inning.

    Practice happenings:
    During double play practice, someone made an error so all players in that drill had to do modified push ups. Hard to describe. Two arms on ground...lower arm ,raise one leg...raise one arm... raise other leg...raise other arm. See I told you it was hard to describe.

    Another first in practice: batting practice without using the batting cage.

    Wow, Gatorgal04 can do a much better job. Hope she's there Friday. I see now why you cannot have people talk to you during a game. Scrimmages are twice as complex.

    Liam Peterson was absolutely filthy in his one inning of work that I saw. Struck out the side and was up to 97. A couple of offspeed pitches played very well. Split was 19 miles an hour.

    He took one in the helmet in his first AB, came around to score, then immediately hit a beauty just inside third to the LF corner for a nice 2B.

    Some really outstanding defense from Ashton Wilson in right field. He made a few outstanding plays.

    Summary of practice and scrimmage 10-26

    During practice all pitchers had to play infield. Half the pitchers were at first base, the other half at third base. Both positions fielded ground balls and faked throw home.

    Then those at third moved to shortstop. Those at first moved to second. This is a double play drill. So, ground balls fielded by second would throw to the shortstop and then vice versa.

    Blue went 3 up,3 down in 5th. In the 6th they scored 3 with 3 hits and a walk. Did not score again.

    Orange scored 3 in the 8th with five walks, one hit then Coach called “Game”. Did not finish the 8th or play the ninth inning.

    Reads like our hitters are getting a little more comfortable with third and fourth looks at our pitchers. That’s both normal and good. It should give our pitchers incentive to locate their pitches better.
