The fun thing about the hot air balloon was that the sign faced the other way then rotated around for the people in the stadium to see, "Trojans break under pressure." Wilbur Marshall played hell on trojans.
We were actually given the SEC Championship Trophy in 1994 before they voted to strip us of the title...We still have it somewhere...UF should put it on display in Heavener.
This!! They never would have taken it from UGA, UT or Bama. Somewhere cheater Mike Dubose is walking around with his 99 Sec ring from Bama. They wanted to keep their foot on our neck and at the time 3 schools ran the conference. This will always be our first for a total of nine SECCs. It should definitely be on the wall. Screw the conference. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Vince Dooley professed to be Pell's good buddy, but didn't hesitate to stick it to us, in spite of the fact that he had been cheating all along. I also think Dickey was athletic director at UT when the vote to strip us was made.
The vote in the spring of '85 was 6 - 4. The presidents of Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, and Vandy stripped us of the title. 4 of those guys are now deceased. On-the-field performances should decide championships, not opinions. There's plenty of space to add 1984 to the SEC Championship wall. You can't offend dead men. President Criser threatened to sue at the time. I wonder how that would have worked out.
“Best in SEC 1984,1985,1990” needs to go back up in The Swamp in backlit LCD. Foley wanted to be his usual DB PC self when he took it down. I loved it when it went up in the 90’s and hate Foley for taking it down.
That's when the vote was taken. Bob Woodruff was AD prior to Dickey and he held a grudge against UF too. I'm not sure who was the AD at the actual vote
Yes, but Dickey started the job after the vote. Edit: The vote was taken in May. Dickey was appointed AD in August.
The answer to this mystery. But I suspect that Dickey was talking to UT prior to August, so he may have gigged us anyway, which he surely would have, given a chance.
He would’ve had to been talking to UT four or so months earlier. There’s no evidence that he talked to them, and even if he did, that he tried to influence the decision against UF. I would rather not badmouth someone purely upon speculation with no evidence.
