It's a difficult job bc we concentrate so much authority in the one position. There is absolutely zero actual reason for us to cede full authority to a single human being, beyond the centrifugal force of momentum and habit, and the peer pressure of "that’s how everybody does it"--but 2 things have changed drastically from what naturally evolved into the way everybody does it: NIL and the portal. And you mock my common sense deductive reasoning as self inflated *avant garde thinking*--while not even broaching the depth of the tectonic shift on the terrain, wrought by those 2 factors. Yeah, I'm well aware that I'm way off the res here, by daring to suggest something drastically different is in order--but it's not my thinking that's radical--it's the actual change in the terrain, that has changed, radically. Step out from the comfort of the conventional wisdom, and answer me this question straight up: the $27 million that goes to Billy as reward for sucking out loud... Is that money better, or worse spent, than if it were instead invested with our NIL affiliated org? Now, assuming you concede the non-avant garde, common sense point of that rhetorical question, next is: do you really need $10 million dollar per year dude to coach the players you can get for 20+ million in NIL, to maximize your ROI? TBL: the point of diminishing returns has been drastically reduced in terms of a coach salary by the radically changed landscape, and can--and OUGHT (IMHO) be further reduced, by decentralized/ deconcrntrating the coaching authority, in order to hedge/mitigate our vulnerability ( eg--being stuck with 3rd n Grantham, Charlie Weis' hands tied, Billy as OC/ game time manager....). One more rhetorical question: my plan is sooooo crazy, soooo dumb.... well, what assurance can you propose that the next monster contact to a single coach, doesn't go sideways like the last 4? ...and that last point, is why I maintain we are in a unique situation to try something innovative and completely new. Who's more or better justified (and therefore better positioned) than Gator Nation to be leary of the status quo/SOSDD expecting different results?
^^^^bonus/collateral point: Nick Saban--winningest coach in CFB history tapped out, with at least some gas left in the tank. Urban Meyer, second most successful coach in last quarter century.... not even sniffing opportunities. Is their thinking *avant garde*, or.... Common. #$$%&n. Sense. ?
oh, and what’s the significance of changing your ‘dislike’ to a ‘come on man’? Didn’t like your own dislike?
Not at all. He was a political appointment no doubt but my main gripe from day 1 was that he was the only candidate announced and ushered into the position in the shade. It just stunk. When i read his qualifications, i questioned how he could be the only candidate. I have my political opinions. I believe politics drove the appointment. But i was and am pissed at how the process was changed for the appointment.
Thanks Max. Given that academia is traditionally a liberal world, selecting a conservative politician for the position seemed an odd fit for sure.
Everyone thinks they have the answers and the quick fix. When are you going to implement your strategy?
After you implement yours, cowboy. (Funny guy. As if any one of us on here, could implement our preferred plans. Any of us who could--starting with me - wouldn't bother with sharing ideas on here, nor any message board. We'd just do, and the world could kiss our ass).
What if FSU hires Kiffin before us? We need to be careful here - I think FSU keeps Norvell but I could see FSU being attractive to Lane
Forgot about the buyout - I think Lane loves UF too the Deion thing at FSU - can see why 2-3 yrs from now that's a scary proposition
May I ask what credentials has Kiffin recorded to warrant such love from Gator Nation . He a trolling , smartass , narcissistic. Average at best . Much rather keep Billy
