By: Nick Marcinko -- October 15, 2024 Florida’s pass protection has improved in 2024. Through six games this season, the Gators have allowed 30 pressures and eight sacks. In 2023, Florida allowed 126 pressures and 39 sacks. We are at the halfway point of the season, which means the Gators are on pace to significantly improve in both statistical categories. Pro Football Focus grades Florida’s offensive unit as the 7th best in pass protection this season. The Gators ranked 62nd in 2023. A major part of Florida’s improvement in pass protection is the increased production from their offensive tackles, particularly right tackle. I keep seeing all of these great stats like this players grading high and PFF rankings, but, it hasn't translated to wins when it matters yet. There has been definite improvement from last season.
I have posted plenty of times that any player who you think a key leaves and isn't much in their new place isn't much of anything (unless it is the HC's evaluation of who to sign). But if the players become something capable on another team (the pros especially), that is about as damning as there is to the coach. If we have some players on offense this year that show up in the pros, Napier is a BAD HC at this level. But to me, this is all water over the dam. He may get a fourth year because of the lack of a President who should be able to pick their AD, but his era at UF is essentially over. He just doesn't have it.
