They truly great quarterbacks while they may have arm strength or mobility do not rely on that. Presnap is huge, but also being able to see 21 other people on the field and know what is about to happen not watching what happens

Why not? POTUS doesn't draw up military strategy, that's done by generals and admirals (though he does retain final call on go/no-go decisions).

    POTUS is still CIC.

    Same with HFBC/coordinators, imho.

HFBC responsible and accountable for bottom line results--if him calling shots is best for results, c'est la vie--have at it. When it's clearly not.... then by golly, let go the damn reigns.

Yeah, there's your "apples and oranges".

Mullen at OC vs. *no* O/C.

The random subbing for Jones is what ultimately cost Trask the Heisman I think. Mullen even admitted as much in an interview at the time if I remember correctly. His stats in 2020 would have been even more eye popping if he stayed in for 100% of the snaps.

I never understood the subbing. It disrupted the flow of the offense more often than not. And Mullen was almost exclusively using Jones just as a runner. Jones rarely threw that year. So it wasn't even that great experience for Jones either.

I wish Trask got the Heisman so we could add another statue in front of BHGS

    Though this thread is about Trask, since we’re also talking about Franks there is never a bad time to play this;

They ducked Clemson that year too. Norvell knew what was about to take place and found the excuse he needed to make it not happen.

He was excellent. Decisive and accurate. And his decisions for the most part were good. You don't need a cannon for an arm in college when you've got the above going for you. I miss watching him play in DM's O. I thought that O was even more fun to watch than the Urban era if he didn't have Percy (that guy was amazing). Now obviously SOS O's in his prime were the best.

While Brian Johnson was the "OC" even Mullen had come out and said that all play calling was a collaborative effort with multiple coaches. The only thing I can attribute to Mullen is that he was open to going away from his run heavy approach and actually schemed around what we did well.

Maybe we see something similar this time if we are lucky. Similar to Franks going down (he was the better dual threat) and Trask coming in (Pure Passer) and the offense transformed. Hope is that Lagway's running ability opens up some of the offense that we ran with AR, except Lagway can actually hit all of the throws.

I think the “ collaborative effort” is Coach speak for “It’s not me”.

As for Lagway, I won’t hold him to hitting all of the throws, but 60-70% with no pics will do just fine.

Wow, thanks for posting this. Trask + Pitts, Grimes, and Toney was a thing of beauty.

Trask may crack the top 5 in terms of great QBs here, but his story probably is the greatest one

I only went by what I saw during the spring game, his mop up duty, and how 2 coaching staffs chose others ahead of him as my only empirical evidence of how to grade him prior to him taking over full time.

Every single expectation was completely shattered. He went from career backup, to Heisman finalist, and perhaps a cushy career as a professional career backup again.

But those years in between, led by Trask, were the ONLY years since 2009 where I felt Florida weren't paper gators and could play with anyone.

Yep, FSU got dropped and TAAm got added. Got the typical home office shaft there.
