With 5 automatic bids going to highest ranked conf champions. And the rest of the 7 going to the highest rankings remaining- the SEC beating up on one another matters a lot. You could see really good Tennessee or Georgia, Bama or Ole Miss teams end up with 3 losses while the Big 10 will have undefeated or 1 loss Ohio state, Oregon or even teams like Washington or Indiana sneaking in to top 12 by beating up on Rutgers, Maryland, Iowa, Wiscy etc
I’m wondering what kind of value is going to be given to overall records, SOS in a conference that is top to bottom better… losses to Vandy and Ark look bad but those are 8 win teams if they are in the Big10.
We are moving into an era where a 9-3 record in the SEC is really good and I don’t want to see 2-3 loss SEC teams get left out for a 1 loss Indiana (although I am rooting for Indiana ciz why not?)

Prepare for that now. The committee views the Big 10 and SEC as equals and will rank as such.

I've never been happy about the SEC agreeing to the current play-off format . . . plus doing away with divisions . . . but they forgot to call and ask me.

Even under your scenario, the cream should rise and the 2-loss SEC teams that do get in should handle the 1-loss, cupcake schedule Big Whatever team(s). Big 12 and east coast JV conference will perennially be warm-up games for someone.

That’s no good. We want big dollars when we are negotiating the next TV contract and we want to get big money once the private equity firms come knocking.

I get it. The conference will be strong whether I root for them all to lose or not. Let em burn.

We thought the PAC-12 was strong until it wasn’t. You want us to remain the top dog. No need to hate. We just need to play better.

During the last round of expansion (TAMU and Mizzou), the PAC-12 was ahead of the ACC and the Big 12. They were close to getting Texas and OU if you recall. Twelve years later, they are a G5 (G6) conference.

I second this, I want 2007 all over again. Give em all 3 losses and let the chaos reign.

I get the state of our program, but how about we win and not live off of other teams’ misery.

First, look at the AP rankings this week. If the committee's rankings are similar, and they usually are, the SEC gets plenty of respect and the . Second, the B1G plays 9 conference games vs 8 for the SEC, so they beat each other up more than the SEC. Third, the three SEC teams that just upset top 10 ranked SEC teams did the following back in September:

Vandy - lost at Georgia State (a Sun belt team)
Arkansas - lost at Oklahoma State (who is now 0-3 in the Big 12)
Texas A&M - lost at home to Notre Dame (who then lost to NIU)

The OOC results don't back up this assumption that lower-level SEC teams authoring these upsets would be upper tier teams in the B1G.

BUT... I do agree that teams like Indiana and the Ohio State, who chose not to challenge themselves at all in the non-conference, should have their seedings penalized accordingly. But nothing tells me an 11-1 Indiana is less deserving than say a 9-3 Mizzou or Ole Miss (who also have garbage OOC schedules).

I don’t like them any better when we’re winning.

What’s more memorable? Beating an undefeated FSU team in ‘97 or beating a 5-6 FSU team in 2021?
