Just had to interject on this - that "mediocre musician" has won 20 Grammy's, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also received the National Medal of Arts, Presidential Medal of Freedom and the MusiCares Person of the Year award (and more). You don't have to like his music, I'm not much of a fan either tbh, but he is ANYTHING BUT mediocre. Lastly, for those who don't know, Bruce is who you see, he is not putting on an act where he lives. He may be wealthy but he's a local townie in NJ. My friends see him all over - in local dive bars and diners and everywhere around town in Central Jersey. He gets onstage with local house bands all time time to jam - he has zero pretense is absolutely a man of the people, it's not to prop up some fake rep. But the rest of your point, is solid, and is noted and applauded. As you said, being a good person what we should all be judging people on, regardless of party.
To further my point, I don't care for Kid Rock's politics. And I'm not much of a fan of his music at all - but that man worked his ass off musically, to become what he became. He has also won a few People's Choice awards and such. So I respect him for his work ethic and even though his music is not my cup of tea, he clearly resonates with a lot of folks. So much like Bruce, and many other posters on here, I don't really give a crap what celebs have to say. But for those who do, a word about Scott Baio and all his accomplishments... Ok. Carry on.
Bruce Springsteen is not a mediocre musician. He isn’t my favorite either but he has put out some of the most influential music of the last 40 years.
I'm not much of a Springsteen fan either, but can't help but appreciate the energy he brings to the live performance. He's authentic, imo.
Four Springsteen songs are on my list of favorites: Thunder Road, Born to Run, Rosalita, and Atlantic City. Although for the last one, I prefer The Band version better. For the most part, I couldn’t care less who a celebrity supports politically. I do get a little irritated with a celebrity like Martin Sheen looks down on the rest of us because his opinion is better. At least I don’t get that out of Springsteen. The truth is, very few people whose music I love have lived their lives in a way that I would like to emulate. I just listen to the music. Some of them are good people, and some of them aren’t.
Tenth Avenue Freeze Out was the song that my fraternity played to close every party. It has special meaning to me.
Couldn’t agree more on the band’s cover of Atlantic City. One of the few covers that is without a doubt better than the original (in the same vein as Hendrix’s Watchtower).
So, since you never saw Bruce do a uso concert, it didn't happen? May shock you, but you bearing witness isn't required for something to happen.
Or he’s been a Dem for 30 years…. Mind you I wish Trump would just vanish. But let’s not make this into something ore than it is.
Yeah it’s what I said I never saw him do one. Stop making it more than it is. It’s not that deep. Typical zero.
You shut your mouth, you shut your mouth right now! Mods please delete his post. Nebraska is one of the greatest albums ever released, and Atlantic City's haunting, propulsive and sparse original will always be the best version of it. I'm going to have to leave Too Hot for a while, there's just too much hate and ignorance on it.
Petty for thinking he’s mediocre or had zero influence on my musical tastes? Some people. It’s not that deep.
