A POTUS or VPOTUS should NOT visit a disaster area in the immediate aftermath of the event. The focus during this time should be human recovery first and foremost. Let the first responders do their jobs. The security required for a high ranking political visit interferes with this. Harris thanking the first responders away from the disaster area is appropriate. Biden has stated he'll visit the areas, but only after the area is a bit more stable, and clean up/ recovery has begun. Also appropriate. As for the disaster response, the only ones complaining are Trump and his minions, which should tell you something.
Putting aside party (which is difficult for most) why in the world would local authorities and FEMA want to have to deal with securing sites for elected officials and political candidates trying to give the optics of caring and a photo op while people are still missing, stuck, dead or who knows what else, towns are still flooded, neighborhoods inaccessible etc ? I can’t imagine a more nonsensical waste of resources. And I can’t imagine local officials want anything to do with such political kabuki. Sure, Trump would be the first to take away from the needed resources to have a “Look at me” moment, but Biden is doing what a leader needs to do—giving all necessary resources while absorbing none of the distractions. You are aware that during the period immediately following a disaster politicians visiting the disaster site for photo ops contribute nothing to recovery and just get in the way and that is especially true of the President and/or presidential candidates who require security resulting in the diversion of first responders who could be performing more essential tasks?
