I thought we did the right thing. The result of the Iraq war seems to have validated that. If you are going to create a power vacuum chances are what fills it will be just as bad or worse.
At the time I thought that President George H.W. Bush made a mistake by not taking out Saddam Hussein. In retrospect, Bush made the right decision and he was proven correct when his son launched the Second Gulf War in 2003. The rationale of the senior President Bush regarding his decision. "Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq, would have violated our guideline about not changing objectives in midstream, engaging in mission creep,' and would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible. We had been unable to find Noriega in Panama, which we knew intimately. We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. The coalition would instantly have collapsed, the Arabs deserting it in anger and other allies pulling out as well. Under those circumstances, there was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles. Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different--and perhaps barren--outcome." Wow, do you need a hug? Why don't you move this to the pub then, as was pointed out in another thread this is TH is case you forgot.
I deserve those. I should have said he wasn’t a good president IMO, but he wasn’t the worst. That honor belongs to the Trumpster.
His decency alone made him a better POTUS than the 2 predator(s) that came long after him. Trump and Willy Jeff.
Respect is respect, it doesn't matter what board it's on. Do you shit on the "prayers needed" threads, too?
After HS, I worked for a tree company for a year. I used to park the company equipment at a gas station in Plains when I worked in that part of the state. As it turned out it was Billy that gave me permission. I always filled up there as thanks and Billy didn’t say much to the raggedy long-hair in the parking lot.
