Yep. Still dumb if you are going to teach sex ed, teach about safe sex. Not rocket science.

Not rhetorical, but how is abstinence taught in school? wait until marriage? Is maga concerned education on reproduction and discussing contraceptive techniques will encourage kids to have sex? And why not discuss domestic violence?

They are not only banning books but now they are changing the info that goes into them. Thankfully cooler heads will prevail. The winds are already shifting in FL against Nazis for Liberty.

Groomers like it when their targets aren't informed about such things. Makes things easier for them.

There are good policy arguments both ways.

On one hand, yes, you want teenagers to practice safe sex if they are going to engage in it.

On the other, the problem with sex ed promoting contraception to the extreme is that it signals to teenagers that casual sex is acceptable. You don't have to agree that it isn't acceptable, but states need to draw lines somewhere, and some people aren't going to be happy.

For the record, I am not judging people who have sex casually, and sure, it's common, but that doesn't mean our public education system needs to tacitly endorse it, nor does it mean that the only entity that can fill the role of sex education is the public school system.

This should not be an issue that moves the needle for a lot of people. Most right-leaning who oppose this will say "meh," and the left-leaning to radical left people who oppose it oppose pretty much everything else the state of Florida has done since DeSantis has been in office for political reasons.

This line of thinking taken to its logical extreme is the type of logic that would suggest public schools offer students clean needles to promote safe drug use.

People just feel less icky about sex because casual sex has become so normalized in American culture over time. I think America would be better off if we went back in the direction as a culture where more people viewed casual sex as taboo.

It's a free country, you're free to disagree, and you're free to send your kids somewhere else for school, or educate your kid however you see fit.

One has to be incredibly stupid to deny intelligent design.

It is the height of idiocy to employ one's own intelligence, to deny undeniable fruit of intelligence--beginning with declaring one's own intelligence to be the fruit of incredibly convenient accidents...ie dumb luck. Lol!

This might come as a shock to yall, but....sex with minors--including by minors--is against the law in Florida.

....which makes teaching (really emphasizing) abstinence, is teaching kids to obey.....THE LAW.

    Revolutionary, I know...

Sidenote: I have 4 kids...they and their friends are responsible about sex (ie--not engaging in it). That was not the case when I was growing up, and libs taught everyone that if you weren't getting laid, there was something wrong with you.

God bless this return to sanity in our public schools.

Yes, as a parent I try to stay informed about threats to my children. This change in sex education will make children easier targets for groomers, and will increase abortions. I am opposed to it.

And what exactly qualifies the government to teach it?

Not defending the idea some parents failed miserably as well. But let’s not act like the government is going to solve this.

Since when is sex ed woke? This is just craziness. You can’t support lunacy like this and then claim to be pro-life.

I assume everyone in this thread took sex ed classes where words like “fluids” were used. Why is this now a problem?

Gotta love the title of this thread and this line “but also provide information on how pregnancy occurs, the pros and cons of various birth control methods…”

Some of you get all fired up over nothing. Well. Maybe it is because you want your kids sleeping around…

You know you’ve messed up somewhere when ideological purity comes before actually reducing what they consider “murder”.

Florida - always keeping the best interests of incels in mind, preparing them for a lifetime of abstinence.

If you think high school kids don’t think about sex every single day, you have lost all reality of what it was like to be a high school student.

is that a argument against schools teaching abstinence? Isn’t that the point, how can gov/public schools tell kids not to have sex. And when should they - as adults? Marriage? However reproductive health is fact base. Also contraception- along with stats of effectiveness, disease, how they spread, what is/isn’t effective etc.

as mentioned before it would be interesting what/how the gov is recommending to teach abstinence.

Then don’t let your kid take “sex education,” taught by the government. What qualifies the government is the issuance of a license to instruct students. If that is not good enough for you, you have choices. But if the government is going to teach about sex, part of sex includes methods to prevent impregnation. Sure, abstinence is the best method, and that too can be taught. But if you think high school kids agree, I have a stable of unicorns I would like to sell you.

Why would think I do not realize high school kids think about sex…a lot?

That has nothing to do with how to approach that reality.
