UK has bb money too don’t forget. Not a pressure cooker job. I wouldn’t do it if I were him. Unless they are tired of the cold winters and need some beaches and golf courses.
Stoops, fwiw, is already one of the highest paid coaches in the SEC. That said, he will certainly instill a tougher mindset in our team, but he hasn’t shown the ability to truly break that Kentucky glass ceiling and win a championship.
There’s a lot of money up there in Kentucky. It’s just if they want to spend it on football like Alabama does or not.
And if recruiting ranking has anything to do with Nil, it doesn’t appear they are spending the money to get the recruiting classes for him to win with. You’re not gonna overcome Alabama and Georgia and Texas with recruiting classes outside top five. In reality, though, stoops has paid to be a second deer coach in the SEC and that’s exactly what he has been
To be fair, Washington considered him. They aren't an elite program, but they aren't scrubs. They were in the championship game last year...
More like lower paid assistants not risking a move. Most sane folks would take a 2 yr job for an extra couple MILLION or doubling their salaries.
Are they really though? If we end up having to pay a buyout, then CBN’s salary would really be $8+M more per year.
I know it’s all speculation and rumors, but supposedly Gundy openly expressed interest in other jobs before during coaching searches - UF and Tennessee I remember reading about. Usually I would agree that an alum won’t leave, but he may think he’s reached a ceiling there. I like him. Not sure he can get us to back to the top, but he would be a huge upgrade IMO.
Losing to ky once in a while is gonna happen. Three in a row? No bueno. Four in a row and counting? Unacceptable. That 30 game streak is a distant memory.
Jedd's record is skewed by the 1-11 year one at Arizona. Once again he was cleaning up a mess left by the Sumlin disaster. At Washington he will struggle this year. He only has two returning starters there.
SOS left UF, so it is definitely possible. Sometimes in life you just want a change in scenery. Gundy and Chris Klieman (K-State) would be at the top of my list. Both are P4 coaches that have shown they can produce consistent wins and have out produced their respective predecessors. Neither have access to the kind of talent UF can draw and both are in a conference that is less inspiring these days. At this point, I just want a coach that won’t embarrass the brand.
With all due respect to Matt Barrie, I have been saying we need a transitional coach and I specifically named Meyer for that job after the Miami debacle. So, that's my idea, pal... Matt. Some people here gave it some thought and others said it would be next to impossible... seems about right. But I still would like Meyer and a transitional coach to keep the good talent from leaving and making sure not to let our team completely fall apart.
One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small And the ones that mother gives you Don’t do anything at all
Concur re. Meyer as interim. Out of respect though, I'd offer that position to Surrier first. I don't think he'd accept (pretty sure), but I believe it would be a sign of respect to offer it to him, and if he did accept... it's well enough earned. Urbs OTOH, I actually think he'd very seriously consider the option, if not welcome the opportunity to ingratiate himself to Gator Nation again--make a play for the ROH. (...and that's not even factoring in for the opportunity to test run shiny new toy Legway...).
Meyer is the sure thing, a proven winner at multiple schools. However, on a recent podcast he was asked about the Florida job and said "That ship has sailed." No harm in talking to him, but I don't think he will come.
