Blown call, clean hit. Doesn’t even matter if helmets touched. He lead with his shoulder, not the crown of his helmet. Refs should be embarrassed. Terrible ESPN crew said nothing. Would be nice to see Billy fighting for his guys on the sideline though.
Helmut bump only applies if the player was defenseless. That it wasn't blindside and the player braced for it and it had a football play purpose means that kind of targeting can't apply.
I do not know the rule. I know it’s misapplied multiple times each Saturday when one crew calls it one way and one crew calls it another. Thanks for clarifying. I was tied up when that play happened and fast forwarded through my recording of the game specifically to see it. I couldn’t understand what Montrell did wrong. Again, it seems that if it’s a “devastating” hit then there must be a penalty
If that’s a blindside block, what is Trey Dean’s INT in the SECCG when Menchi clocked him and caused a fumble?
That actually could have been called... but not on Bama, and especially not in the SECCG. Montrell's block was NOT a penalty, IMHO.
Right. It's just a good block with a poor defender. Nothing fits with a penalty, but calling it targeting would have gotten Mizell a much deserved TD.
Hate to keep bringing it up but this problem will continue for Gators until conference affiliated refs are done away with like in ncaa basketball. There is a bias and been that way for years. Show me when Uga or AL has been called for a block like this by an SEC crew. We also had a couple interference calls as well that AL and Uga do not get called for. It is so stupid to have conference affiliated refs. Remove the stupid inherent bias. Who will ref Ucf vs UF game? If that game meant something one year with a 12 team playoff it is stupid to have a ref crew get paid by a conference that will make $20 million more for a team getting into playoff.
I love how the Miss st radio broadcast was calling it a dirt play. What the hell are you watching? That’s a clean block. Kid just ran into a wall.
