I have a hard time believing all of the safeties are bad except sometimes 7. This points to coaching, regardless of the fact that we might not have potential all americans everywhere from a talent standpoint.
Our defensive scheme doesn’t seem to try to dictate to the opposing offense, but plays soft and reacts to the offense. Just watching the Auburn game, and on 3rd and 9, Auburn brought the house and got a sack. Our defense doesn’t play with that level of aggression, so we usually die due to death by a thousand cuts.
Congrats to the Gators on the dub! Aidan Mizell showed he needs more playing time. We have TE’s . Congrats to Hanson and Boardingham for getting in the endzone. Good road win for the players and letting Napier smile since the Miami game started. D is a major disappointment. Just not tough at all. Missed tackles, defensive penalties, arm tackling and didn’t seem to care about getting the ball run down their throat. Whoever the next guy is will have a ton of talent but will need to rebuild the mental foundation of the players. Go Gators!!!
Remember the Arkansas QB that was a running QB at 245 lbs that killed us last year...with Malzahns triple option offense that requires great assignment defense (which is exactly what we cant accomplish) to stop....Our defensive coaches better figure things out real fast or it could be ugly. If Miss St got 250 rushing yards on us UCF can certainly bust our defense much worse. Unfortunately they are the better team right now....
I think it is a mix of coaching and scheme. It is drilled in our safeties to not get beat deep, so they sag back and are basically wasted defenders. Plus we seem to be playing bend don’t break defense, so we don’t dictate to or put pressure on the opposing offense.
As I posted in the OGT-I don't care whether msu is a good or bad team-I will take the win-rather win against a bad team than lose to them (I remember losing to Ga Southern )-the only stats I care about the score-we outscored them and really I don't care about whether they had over 400 yards of offense-we won -plain and simple! Do I want a better and tougher defense-heck yeah-I love defense-but at least our offense scored 45 points and the ST didn't make any goof ups-
Mizell was the brightest spot for me. He had good moves and desire If not for the penalties his stats would have been very impressive. He does need to see more targets. He and Lagway could be the future
Great to watch a Gator win (I didn’t see Samford)! I wore my Meyer-era Gator shirt today to bring some new juju to the team and it worked ha ha. Nice to see both QBs have success with long scoring drives. Better balance on O. Like everyone else, I am shocked and worried about the lack of improvement on D. But, for now I’m gonna enjoy today and look forward to another loss for the Holes tonite.
