I don't know why Napier has been so seemingly in over his head here and wouldn't argue at all with that description. But he was a successful head coach at the D1 FBS level for four years, albeit at a midmajor in a minor conference. We can guess why that was at his level of competence and UF wasn't, but he was able to make his system work as a head coach somewhere at the D1 level.
I really don't mind that we took a chance on what appeared to be an up and comer. Paying an unproven coach like he's the second coming of Nick Saban was completely unnecessary. If Napier would have balked at an incentive laden contract, we should have moved on to unproven, up and comer #2.
Another astute poster pointed out recently that his former team almost never covered the spread while winning. That should have been a big warning sign that he would struggle against teams with equal or better talent.
Yep, but in the grand scheme of things, 26 mil isn’t what really what hurts, it’s wasting three years. When a program brings in 200 million a year, 26 mil is insignificant when compared to winning. The product will lose more value for losing.
That’s a coaching problem Every team in the history of the world has a scout team that isn’t relatively good. That’s why they are on scout… The point of scout is to get used to the other teams plays and tendencies. That’s literally all coaching and advanced prepping.
