You could literally write this about any storied program that has fallen on hard times, looking for a home run hire to bring them back. His daughter is not going to keep him at Ole Miss. This is Lane Kiffin, after all. I am positive he loves his daughter to death, but he's not going to pass up a major upgrade if the price is right. Again, it's his ceiling at Ole Miss versus what it would be at Florida. Talent, recruiting, money. As Urban said, when you coach in Gainesville, the recruits live right down the road, so you're home every night.

 

I mean, we are at a critical juncture and the realistic options aren't inspiring. Yeah, we are bummed...

Someone mentioned Jeff Brohm earlier. To me, he's the closest comp to the Utah version of Urban Meyer. You give him the keys to a program like Florida and he would do nice things. Would still rather have Kiffin or Meyer himself, but Brohm would at worst deliver Brian Kelly like results at Florida. Likely better than that though. He would not flop like all of our coaches since Meyer have.

 

This reeks of Stricklin deciding to go down with the ship so to speak. From his perspective, why should he fire him when he goes with him by all accounts? I think he's gonna make the new AD fire him.

 

You were definitely one of the last riders on the Mullen bus. Lazy Dan had to go though, he actually pretty much fired himself. His offense was the goods. All he had to do was, hire a top-shelf DC (he had the $$$ because there was no need for a high dollar OC), hire a upper tier OL coach and several stone cold killer recruiters in a few other assistant spots. Drop all the buddies. The facilities upgrade and a bigger budget was on the way. He could’ve had a 20yr run here. What a shame.

 

You think one of your fiscally responsible contracts would lure him away?

 

The lines between cfb and NFL have blurred a bit now that NIL is a thing. I don't see it as a major reason to reject a candidate. A good football coach will be successful and attract talent, as long as there's also NIL $$ there to support.

 

If he’s rolling at ole miss, why would he leave for Florida?

 

Nope. I think it's clear based on reports that SS will lead the hire that UF will do the same thing as always and roll the dice. Disappointing.

College football isn't college football anymore. We got GMs in front office roles, free agency portals, contracts for NIL money, and next year will have "salary caps"/revenue sharing. That is not the college football we all remember.
