I am not some big SS supporter. I understand he has had poor hires, but our athletics department as a whole is as good as any other school, which has to be credited to the guy who has been overseeing it for 8 years. I think SS and the UAA and other admins have been committed in supporting all sports equally. We have not treated Football like it is king, unlike most other top programs. I think we have the opportunity to do something different than everyone else. We see it with TENN right now with the talent fee. It is turning into a business. Why not create a "Football Board/Committee" type of situation, where there are 15-20 CFB/UF minds who oversee the football program and direct it. SS will also be on the board and they can meet with UAA and boosters as well. But Football will have to be treated as a business. It needs to be managed by a group of "football" people.
A guy who had one good year before any current players were even alive, may as well see if Barry Switzer is available, and he actually won in college.
The problem I have with your position is that FOOTBALL IS KING, that's it. And okay, needs to be managed by football people, but is that how the other universities who sold their souls do it? Maybe we should just manage football the way successful programs are managed?
Me too, but he would make one good DC... I wonder if he'd be any good at being a transitional interim head coach. I'll bet our defense would play better.
There’s still 90+ for Miami but changes are needed to keep that up. We will support the players for a while on a rebuild/ reorganization but not this.
I'm still waiting for Mike Shanahan to return to Gainesville! He's only 72. Can't be more stressful than Leader of the Free World.
You could even go as far as saying a burning hatred of uga is at the top of the list of requirements. And treating fsu like a clown college of course.
If I remember correctly, there was always a committee of sorts when Foley had a coaching search. I don’t remember that being discussed during two most recent searches. Hard to believe there would be some team assembled for a task that monumental.
Yep, it would be different if the school was spending all the money the fans collectively generate but they pocket it all and put it on the booster. Great system.
