Key point: The former championship players want Lane freaking Kiffen. Do whatever it takes to get this coach
Yeah my feelings toward Lane were much the same as SH. But he made good points. Go get the dude. Sad that SH has seen the same thing for so long and was like many hoping it was going right. SS comes back with one name, not that I think he will. He needs to go for dereliction of duty.
Think about it…..I mean just look at the make up of the coaching staff…none of them come from national title pedigree. NONE of them (except Billy G whose position group is the shining light on the team ironically).
Actually the RB's have performed nicely here when they had any blocking at all. Juluke seems to be a keeper. I'm starting to wonder if the OL coaches are on WFH and coach the line via Zoom calls.
I'm seeing this sort of thing from the media in a lot more than just college football. Hype, smoke and mirrors. Call it what it is: pure propaganda. Why is there such a thing as propaganda? In this case, the most likely answer is the media sold out to keep their access to the program. It's not a stretch to think there may have been an implicit threat of access revocation if certain media didn't fall in line. It wouldn't be the first time...won't be the last.
Another thing Lane doesn't have at Ole Miss. Sure, it's vanity and appeals to his ego, but when you have a legendary roster of championship players hyping you, that goes a long way. Also, Harris made the point strong that we can't just take another flyer on an "up and coming" coach... we can't take any chances. We have to make a big splash hire. I don't know Steve Harris, but I must have stolen the words out of his mouth before I heard this interview. If the former '06 players think we can nab Lane, then who are we to doubt it?
And Shane Matthews and even the HBC? Doering, Matthews, and the HBC each said they thought this was going to be a good team.
They say that every year practically. In fact, you could see it as them laying the groundwork for "WTF is wrong with this team in year #3?" Think about it. If Matthews, Doering and Spurrier predicted this team was going to suck before the season began, expectations would have been almost nil and they would have been accused of hurting recruiting, etc, etc. They said what they pretty much had to say. Coach speak from the HBC..
Rob Sale is supposed to be this experienced O-Line coach who has had success in the coaching industry. Yet his offensive line can’t hold a pocket for more than 2 seconds on most plays and can’t open a hole for the RB’s on most plays.
I don't think Spurrier was ever fooled. He just said what he had to say as the UF ambassador. He's not going to keep his job if he comes out and says "this team will be lucky to win 3 games this year."
Our hope was based on what we were hearing, including what the three I mentioned were saying. Difference is, they saw something that made them fell that way and we didn't. We based our thinking on what they said.
Nonsense, there's never been coach speak from the HBC, ever. In fact, he's always been known as telling it like it is.
The disconnect is much more than Napier just being "too relaxed" at practice. He is NOT an SEC quality coach. That's all. There is no need to further denigrate that man. He's just not the right man for the job. And, I like many others here, bought into his coaching spiel. He is made for some other profession. If he's that intransigent about his way of coaching, then he has to be shown the door ASAP.
Even Jane would show some hustle…I feel like Tattoo from fantasy Island might be more accurate. :: points to the sky:: “Ze ball boss ze ball”. As it flies over his their head.
Perhaps so, but Spurrier is never going to upend the current UF coach by dogging his team before the season begins.
