Well, his ( @sjgator ) point is well taken, assuming his point was that Scott Ftost was another example of a heavy front loaded contract, while his tenure at Nebraka (suprise after going 11-0 at UCF) was a train wreck. If his point was that he was a train wreck at his alma mater (Nebraska), I'd point out that he took monster pay cut and restructured his contract substantially to mitigate the buyout (much better for Nebraska), BECAUSE it was his alma mater. Of course he was very close to being our train wreck. (I trust his point wasn't to actually suggest that we seek to take our chances on resurrecting his career with another fat AF front loaded beast of a contract, with a typical nuclear buyout...). He's just another not-a-Gator, so ...no thx regardless.
I was just saying being an alum doesn’t mean it would be successful; hence the scott frost reference. don’t know much about his contract. I don’t know why so many people on this board are worked up by a coach contract. It’s not your money so relax. The most important thing is to have a winner. With so much tv money, money is not an issue for the university or the uaa
Scott Frost is a scary example. Broyles finalist as asst. coach of the year while coaching Mariotta and leading Oregon to top 5 offenses for 3 years. Goes to UCF and is wildly successful. Then returns home and never has a winning record…. Folks who have not proven they are successful on a large stage are a huge risk. Fisch may be great and there are certainly others who may shine, but there is one guy who is winning on the SEC stage….
Agree with all points. Except him hiring Kiffen. SS is still a giant pud and we likely would over pay and give him the North end zone as a permanent parting bonus when he left for the NFL.

Nebraska was too much for him, he showed up to see recruits while drunk, I don't think UF would have been any less stressful.
It seems they should be able to write some clause in that contract that says if you totally shit the bed, you don't get all that buyout money. You could put in there, lets say, that 3 consecutive losing seasons or something similar and your buyout get's cut in half or something like that. Most coaches would think they never would field teams that would have 3 consecutive losing seasons. Mind boggling how truly bad Napier is.
I think the best way to do it would be a base pay of X + an agreed upon amount per each regular season win, each playoff win or bowl win, conference championship, national championship. That way if they get canned, the buyout would be based on the base pay, and if they leave for greener pastures, require them to reimburse the school for the balance of their contract.
I agree and love it but agents will laugh in your face. Making money is their gig. Can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Maybe someone can ease that way. There’s always hope, right?
